I'm loving the tone on this 55-76 with the Nordstrand MM5.2 in the Stingray position and the OBP-3 preamp! I had to replace a defective mid-range pot first but it's all hunky dory now. Even though I can't get as much variety of tone as I do on the 55-94s, it has significantly more tone guts and the string to string variation is less.
It has impressed me enough that I ordered Nordstrand MM5.2 and NJ5S pickups to modify one of my 44-94s to see how it compares. I'll probably try them on the 55-94 that has Lakland pups and pre and leave the one with Bertolini pups and pre as is because I like that tone slightly more than the Lakland tone. I may also decide to update the preamp on that one to something else like a Flex Core but that remains to be seen. I probably will wire the new MM5.2 like a Stingray with Parallel/Single/Series mainly because I like being able to flip the switch to go to the louder Series position for 'gasp' bass solos. Lol.

No, not Nordstrand. Neopunch is the name Lakland gave to their "modern" P pickups when they released them like 15 years ago.
Big decision that I need some help with. I have an entire set of black hardware that’s been sitting here for a while now. Trying to determine which one gets the treatment. My #2 gigging tobacco burst 55-14 “Sio Sip” (which I could use the Hipshot detuner on) or the 55-01? I got it thinking the 55-14 for the detuner along with the fact it’s never been a real inspiring looker for me. But then that 55-01 with the black burst body and guard…oof.
Any suggestions?

Hey everyone,
I have a question about lakland hardware. I've had both my Lakland basses since 2008 and want to make some aesthetic changes. I want to switch out the bridge of my bass for a gold lakland bridge. Does anyone know if Lakland would sell just the bridge? Should probably email them, but I've seen some incredibly beautiful Laklands in the LOG and figure I make a stop here first.
If I can get ahold of a gold Lakland bridge, my plan is to also change out the jack plate, knobs and tuners for gold as well.

The 14 does and I have a couple songs in our set that require going below low B which is where it all started. I figured as Hipshot doesn't do brushed nickel hardware, I'd switch it over to black. But then I looked at my 55-01 and thought, man would that look good blacked out. It doesn't get played nearly as much but I'd certainly dig the asthetic.
Having been down this path, I'd start with Lakland. Otherwise, watch the ads (or Reverb/eBay) for used ones as they occasionally show up.
Neopunch is a rather hot P pickup. It can drive hard. My opinion but the J pickup isn’t matched well. It’s just a vintage J pickup. So when you dime them both the volume drops considerably, and rolling in the J doesn’t add much until the end because it’s not balanced. I ended up replacing them with the Aguilar PJ set which are really well balanced and quiet. I think about switching back from time to time because it was a nice P, but I feel the Aguilar lets you enjoy all the various blended positions with more nuance. And the Aguilar P is just what a good P should sound like - though it is not hot at all. Great bass either way and could easily be an only or number one.
Nice! Are those large and one medium size knobs? What preamp configuration are you using that has 3 stacked knobs? Just curious as I'm looking at preamps right now.
Edit, just noticed it's 3 stacked knobs, shoulda zoomed in first time to look. lol.
I used the large and medium for the stacked knobs. The small one is for the six position rotary Z mode selector.
The pre is an Audere 4 band, bass/treble stack, and high/low mid stack. There is only two sets of stacked knobs. The switch is active/passive. Running this at 18 volts. Pro Z modular pre.

If you don't mind me asking, have you compared the Audere to any other non-Lakland pres? Do you find the Z mode useful? Also wondering how you fit the two 9V batteries, maybe one in the preamp bay?
I have a Lakland, Bertolini and Aguilar OBP-3 so far and have been thinking about trying another one in place of the Lakland pre. Looking at Audere, Flex Core and John East pres as candidates so far.
