It's a known fact that Indonesian hardwood is much lighter than Korean hardwood. Duh...
Oh, okay. So that's the answer? They moved manufacturing so the wood supply is different? Is one wood better than another?
(JK)The 44-02s are still ash. Now if there is a particular difference in the species of ash that is being sourced, you would have to ask Lakland. I'm sure that there is some density difference between species but we need a Forester to answer that because I have no idea how great the difference is. That could be/probably is a picking the fly poop out of the pepper type thing.
Stick around, we regularly rib each other pretty good around here. We have a few resident jokesters as well and those that just try to be funny like myself![]()

As long as it's black, I don't care![]()
Has anyone noticed that the weight effects the sound?
Not in my travels. The sound is consistent with nuances. As much as it is an oxymoron, they all sound similar yet different. I went through three 55-02s, two 55-01's and four 44-02s before I found the basses that I bonded with. They were all very similar and consistent but had different "voices". Disclaimer: I'm REALLY weird and believe that because guitars are made from living things that they are as unique as people.
I feel there are far more influential factors than weight that influence sound. That being said, any piece of wood is going to have it's own voice, to a degree. I've yet to come across a bad sounding/playing Lakland or Skyline.

Whew... made it just in time for the set.

Neither, that the stage at Diamond Jim's Country Saloon on Texas City, Texas. They are big supporters of the military and Vets. The entire place is filled with military, POW, Texas and American flags. Its actually a great gig, there are 2 huge AC vents over the stage, which makes it the only gig that I've never gotten sweatty at!
