Played my log bass and Carlo fretless dual humbucker today....both sounded awesome!
I was able to buy a Bartolini pre that was stock from a 55-,94 for great price recently. I installed it in my 55-01, left the stock MK1 pickups in the bass and I'm very happy with the result. The weak point of the MK1 pre is the treble frequency setting. Its simply too much. I always rolled off the treble and was happy. After the preamp swap the treble is tamed and the bass sounds incredible. In my old 55-01 I swapped the stock electronics for a Bart NTMB and Bart MK5's. The sound that I have with the NTMB and MK1 pups is almost the same as with the same pre and MK5's.

I'm considering disconnecting the mid frequency dip switches on my Bart 55-02 and adding a standard 3-way DPDT switch next to the coil tap so that I can change the mids on the fly. Has anyone done this? I thought about a p/p mid pot but like the idea of having the choice between 250Hz, 500Hz and 800Hz.
Does anyone know the hipshot model number that Lakland uses on their US 44-60s and 44-64s? It has a smaller footprint than the vintage HB1s.

I have the same Bart setup,NTMB/MK5, in my 5501. But think I'm gonna try some Aguilar super singles for a lil more growl.
Contact Jason at Hipshot (email jason at hipshot dot com or 607-532-9404). He's helped me a couple times with hardware for Laklands. It might be a model number a la "HB1 Custom". He steered me, for example, to the custom "BT1 Osborn" for reverse-geared/long stemmed tuner xtender key.
Oh, and Hi Lakland friends!! Hopefully will see and meet some of you at the Lakland Get Together on Saturday!
What's strings are you players using? I'm having a hard time finding a set to fit the B string thru the body. I'm coming up short at headstock. I know DR's will fit, looking for a string that's not as expensive. I purchased some Dunlops, length 37 1/2, but they were too short, so I string through bridge.
Ernie Balls worked in the past on string through 35" scales that I have had. The Lakland strings are reasonably priced.
Hollow 30 update.
Well I had a couple weeks with Labella black nylon tapes in light gauge. They really didn't work out to clicky sounding with upper mids. It almost made me fall out of love and return it to sweetwater before my 30 days.
Back to the ultra light set of labella DTFs and I'm back in love. Unfortunately they're a long scale set and the windings are getting ruined at the tuners. They sound great and I've got a short scale set enroute.
There is another hollow 30 in the classifieds if you haven't seen it.
