So apparently if I want to add a detuner to my Skyline DJ4, I'd "need" to replace all the Hipshot licensed tuners with US Hipshot. I didn't find anything with my (not so great) search skills.. Can someone who has done this advise of what permanent modifications need to be done? I assume expanding existing holes or new ones drilled in headstock?

Nah, hipshot makes US tuners that'd fit the "import" hole. Call hipshot.
Hmm, Jason at Hipshot told me last week that they don't have one that fits. (hence my inquiry here.)
I thought you could send a tuner to Hipshot and they could retrofit the D-Tuner onto it? Why would the hole be different from a standard hole?
You don't have to replace all of them just the E tuner. The hole will need to be enlarged but not by much at all.
The holes areca slightly different size on the Skylines and US necks....one of the ways to differentiate between the 2
I got a 55-01 from here that came with Mk5s and an LH3 PRE. I took out the LH3 and put in an Audere PZ 4 in it and for me it is a great fit. I just sold my 55-02. The bass was nice but it just didn't move me. Not like the 55-01. It just feels better to me.. It seems to make no sense because the bodies are the same..
Hey all you JO (44-60) owners, does anyone find that the Hanson Jazz bass pickups are too thin and nasaly? I ask because I am wondering if its the pickups or the Ash/Maple wood combo...
Probably not the most popular stance around here, but as much as I love Laklands, I've generally not been overly enamored with the electronics. I prefer the old Bart stuff to the LH3 stuff, and same for the pickups in general.
My DJ4 is ash/maple with the stock pickups, and I sort of feel the same way. But I attribute it to the pickups. I haven't put my Audere in yet but that should help a bit I hope.
Carl said something about changing some capacitor when I'd mentioned it to him, but I don't recall exactly and haven't followed up.
Your best bet would be to send it to me to figure it out for you!
Yeah... hoping I don't get put on blast here. Anyway, it could also just have to do with my aggressive attack and the 70s pickup spacing, but I am not sure. I have a J-Retro that I could put in it which would beef it up a ton... but I am not sure I need another active J. I have always loved the Chisonics, but maybe my ear has gotten to used to them. And, no, I am not sending you my bass, you have too many already.

(I kid, of course.) I lean in favor of the Lakland electronics myself, though. I prefer the LH-3 system to the Barts, I think it's more tonally flexible. I have not spent enough time with the Hanson J pickups to say for sure, but I thought they sounded a bit thicker and less trebly than Fralins when I tried them on a 44-60. Not as much growl, though.
The vintage Hanson P pickup might be my favorite P pickup, I can get low-mid thump as well as upper-mid aggression depending on my attack.
I really like single-coil Chis, I'm sure I'll own a bass with those again.
I'm also in the "not a fan" camp, but I really have never had a passive jazz that I liked...from any manufacturer, until I discovered Nordstrand Big Singles pickups, which are "it" for me...YMMV.
Playability is second to none, the neck is like butter. I don't play with any effects at all... So I use s lot of preamps.
Going to throw in with another not a fan of LH electronics. I had a custom-built 44-60 that at one point had the stock "vintage" and then a custom set of '94 style pickups in it - just sounded weak and thin as you said. And once again I will say Delano HE/M2 series work nicely with Laklands
