Not at all....I have them in my skyline 5560 (now fretless...) And love the tone....

PS.... MAY be up for sale soon with RW and fretless neck...

I have a J-Retro that I could put in it which would beef it up a ton... but I am not sure I need another active J. I have always loved the Chisonics, but maybe my ear has gotten to used to them. And, no, I am not sending you my bass, you have too many already.

Yep, the old YMMV story! I happen to like both. My 55-94 came with the Barts and the preamp died on me. I got a good deal on the LH3 package and like that sound too! Just a couple different kinds of wonderful.

I agree. I had a custom 44-60 and the I felt the pickups sucked! I was on the fence with modding it but eventually sold it. I have other basses. I found the pickups thin sounding, no highs and lack of bottom.

Interesting. I've got a set of Hanson vintage single coils in my Scheff. (The bridge is over wound either 5% or 10%. I forget which?) They are, to my ears, exactly the opposite of what you describe. They are quite thick and round on the bottom with not as much top end as other brands I've had. If there's any complaint I have about them is that they cold use a little more "mid/upper-mid growl" (whatever that means). (EDIT: I'm not disagreeing with you, BTW. Just a case of IMO, YMMV, etc etc etc.)

The bridge pickup, especially considering how close it is to the bridge, has some serious balls. The neck pickup is nice-n-full-n-wooly. The P is a Nordie NP4. It is a great pickup and matches the other two volume-wise perfectly. But I think I prefer the Hanson Vintage P over the Nordie. Hanson just has more......Character...for lack of a better word. But I'm too cheap and lazy to swap out the Nordie and like I said, it's not like it's a bad pickup!

(EDIT #2: IMO, the Nordie would be a better studio pickup. It is very even across the frequency range. The Hanson has more "air/open-ness" to the sound with a more round bottom end. More to my personal preference.)

Here's the bass I am talking about. Preamp is a LH3 with two blends. I can honestly say I have not found a bad tone on this thing.

BTW, what's with the US Lakies popping up FS here all of a sudden??

I'd really like to add a US Lakie to the team but now is just not a good time (Holiday season). BOTOH, those prices are pretty darn good for early Lakland's. And I've got nuttin' against those Barts!!

That is a really tough question....I know I had a similar issue when i bought my skyline scheff 5 as they do not sell often.

One option would be to get a quote from lakland or Carl Pedigo to build you a new one.....

Another option is to find the most recent used sales ( not many)....

The third option is to sell it ( [emoji11] [emoji10] [emoji33] [emoji6] ) and not worry about insuring it....

Thanks! I got the bass new about 8-9 years ago on a whim. LOVE the color and the look of the lipstick tube pickups. But, the sound? Not so much. Not for me. So many different kinds of pickups and a Mr. Happy Router moment later and PRESTO!...The Stu Scheff was born!

Bummer of a side note: Think I need to send the bass to Lakland. Some of the LH3 pots are scratchy. Volume was cutting in/out on a gig last night.
