Thanks fellas! Good to be back in the fold. Got some more time on it last night. Installed Dual Design Dunlops and some DR Fat Beams. Stock strings a little too pliable for my tastes. And I should be able to drop the action even lower. Just ran out of time last night.

Bringing it to practice tonight. Stage volume is my BG250 + VL110, with dry signal out the BG. Will probably go with the Audere first. Will switch to a J-Retro is I don't dig the Audere with the DJ. I need to be able to do a little tone shaping on the fly, and I don't want to bring a preamp/DI for fear that the sound guys will start talking about me going direct again. Had to fight to keep the rig so I can hear myself and get the choir jumping. :bassist:

I hear ya, Chris! Tried to ask myself "if they're the same price, which would I choose." But then again, I tried to think "what's $200 bucks gonna matter a year from now." So I'm leaning Audere, but haven't totally ruled out the J-Retro.

Yep- that's exactly what it is... it's not that hard with a gig and a press, but I'd hate to do it freehand!

Carl wasn't familiar with Luminlay, but he does have his own solution, which is similar. He said it's easy enough to do, but if it's replacing existing dots, sometimes you'll have a "shadow" if the drilling out isn't done just right (which is difficult).

He also (again) mentioned how much he likes the DR Long Neck strings and how they fit thru body Laklands like they were designed too.

Ok...so I have a question for you 55-01 owners.

Have any of you installed series/parallel/single coil switches on your basses? If you did, did you install a switch for each pickup? My thought is that with 2 switches I could instantly change the sound to that of a 55-02 with the flick of a switch!

I'd appreciate any thoughts, input or sound files if you guys have them.

I used Bartolini MK style pickups and they include a wiring scheme that alternates coils from each pickup together with various combinations. I think I originally went with the series / parallel / Neck Single Coil scheme for the switch. Check it out, most 4 wire pickups have lots of switch wiring possibilities

Yeah...I've got the same schematic...do you find that you use the different settings much? I'm sure it gives you a lot more tonal flexibility....but what I'm wondering is if I'll get it all done and still like the sound of parallel more than the others...in other words, was it worth the hassle?
