Lakland Owners Group #69

The big splits have a bit more punch and bite than the Bartolini mk5. I’ve got the mk5cbc on my 5501 and the kill with the bart USA preamp. The Bart’s are definitely more polished and modern sounding for sure, they have some good bark if you adjust your right hand. The Nordies are just nasty jazz bass sound. I really dig them, but for what I do the Bart’s are the right choice for now.

I have a Lakland Skyfire HB on the way from Sweetwater, (No Financial Interest)(See Avatar). What a step up from the Epiphone EBO. I am really excited and really like the tone. How would I become a member?

Here are pics of the HB

Well folks- I just totally messed in a perfect way and committed to purchase a US 55-94 exotic top (that will be another post when I have it in hand...). But for now I gotta make room in my basement before my wife kicks me out and I don’t have a basement anymore! So i’m doing what under any other circumstances I would never consider doing: selling my Skyline 55-Aj red and maple (yes the one I swapped necks on about a year ago) and my 55-02 fretless (with the poly-coated board from Pat Wilkins... it’s amazing, but I just don’t play fretless enough anymore to justify it) to finance this midnight insanity of mine. Also up on the block will be an Aguilar AG500 (another i’ll never sell it item, but I don’t really need 2 of them!) so this is just a heads up to all my Lakland brothers and sisters that 2 incredible Instruments will be going up on the block in the morning! Keep your eyes open!

Congrats on the incoming!!

Can anyone confirm if Big Splits have more high end crispyness than Bartolini MK5CBC's?
I'm using in my 55-01, the big splits with a nordy 3band pre with passive tone.. I'd say that the barts have a more zingy high end. I love the tone of the big splits. Been real happy with the big splits. Big punchy sound. Strong low end. Smooth and bright or growls and raw. You can mix it in for your own tastes. I'm looking at someone jazz blades of fat stacks for another passive fiver of mine.

The guys over at Nordstrand have been super helpful with all my technical and tonal questions. Shoot them an email if you got some Q's that they could A!
