Lakland Owners Group #69

This beautiful beast arrived a few weeks ago, actually picked it up when the bomb cyclone hit Denver. Anyway, this bass is a thing if beauty! It's a 44-60 Classic I purchased directly from Lakland apparently was one of their NAMM basses. I can't say enough good things about this bass!

I used the same pics for the Genzler club in the amp forum... Hence the gratuitous Genzler swag in the photo.

Just a question... I would love to get a red tort pickguard for this. Would a standard jazz bass pg fit?

When I ordered my 44-64 US Classic, I asked for a Tort guard over a white one, Lakland said “no worries at all”, (although one after the fact may well have a cost).

55-64 next I think and I’m done.

Cheers

Yep... I've been working with Lakland. They're making one for me. Really great people, top notch CS!

Hey all, skyline dj5, skyline duck dunn owner here. I’m considering scooping up a 55-94 in trade from a guy. I had a 5502 around 2009 that was pretty nice but didn’t blow me away in terms of feel and fit/finish. Is a US 55-94 going to feel better in my hands than the 02? My understanding is that the electronics are identical. Just wondering if the neck feel is gonna be a little more svelte than the skyline, not more slim but more well crafted. Any info on the 02 vs the 94 would be very appreciated! And here’s a my skylines... :) the DJ5 has Nordstrands and an east j-tone. Both are seriously killing.

USA will feel better. Whether that’s worth the extra snoot is completely up to you.

It’s being offered as a straight trade for something I have in the classifieds. I played a very early 5594 with Bart’s that knocked my socks off, and then owned a skyline 5502 that was ok but nothing amazing. This one is a Hanson loaded 5594, just trying to gauge how it will feel, but I know it’s all down to the individual piece

The neck will feel nicer as it doesn’t have the poly satin finish. It won’t be any more “svelt”. It will have a higher build quality and be a nicer instrument but won’t play or sound any different, if that makes sense

US Laklands are very consistent in that all of them will have that amazing feel. I've only had a couple Skylines that were keepers, but they were sold eventually. I started off (my first Lakland) with a '99-ish Bart loaded 55-94. And, that set the bar very high!

I no longer buy Skylines. Get the 55-94!!!

All my US Laklands have played better than all but 2 Skylines I've had, which is around 10. I'm guessing I've had 20+ US by now. I have not owned a Skyline since they started PLEKing them. So, that probably makes them play much better than the ones I've experienced.

What are you thinking of trading?

Trading a Roscoe fretless 4 for it. I’d love to keep the Roscoe but I’m not playing enough fretless to justify it and really need a great feeling and sounding workhorse for my main gig. I think the deal is done!

Just wanted to make sure it was a good trade...

You're all good!
