Lakland Owners Group #69

@J.Wolf - I have owned some great Skylines but after moving to US models there was no going back. It's an often repeated opinion, but the US necks really are a cut above. Only the individual can decide if it is worth the expense. Having said that, not every US bass was a fit for me (turns out I'm just a passive P player) but each bass was an excellent instrument. I will also add that my experience is limited to the 2008 and older era.

I wish I could snag the early trans blue ash maple Bart 55-94 that my buddy gard used to own. It was truly ridiculous. I have been of the mind that the Bart’s were preferable to the Lakland electronics but it’s probably not categorically true.

I never thought of myself as a serious Lakland fan but now 3 of my 4 basses are Lakland, go figure lol

I'm usually an LH3 kinda guy but Tabby...an early 2000s crazy quilt top and BEM neck with Bart's is a fav .... Played it today as a matter of fact

I got into it as many did, looking for $1000ish or less J and P style. The bang for the buck is pretty amazing, and my DJ5 and DD4 kinda slay at those price points in their markets. Upgraded the DJ electronics and its a beast, especially for the 1200 or so I have in it.

Now its time for the 94. :) I had my heart set on a WL metro, but I have a feeling this will be perfect for what I'm doing with most of my gigs, an 11 pc Steely Dan Tribute. Have been wanting to be able to cop J(ish), P(ish) and MM(ish) on one great feeling bass.

its really badass. I love it. I wouldnt be interested in a tribute act for pretty much any other band. The bass work is so sick, if you can even get close to what Rainey, Jackson, Barney, hell even Becker are doing, you're doing great. The trick has been copping all those sounds from the 70's through the 90's on one bass. Someone recommended an L2500 and I didnt care for it much at all. 55-94 is the logical next step.

Never understood the versatile reputation the L2000/L2500 has. No matter what settings you dial in it has a kind of metallic, aggressive character to the pickups that color every tone. Not remotely the chameleon the 44/55-94 can be IMO.

Yeah I didn’t get it. Felt clunky, sounded pingy and bloated. Different strokes I guess. I know some cats who loves theirs and get great tones out of 2500’s. Go figure

Only Lakland throws out flamed maple necks for their budget Skyline Series.
