Lakland Owners Group #69

The Lakland shop is shut down until April 7th. My US 44-64 is at their shop, having some work done on it, so I’m a bit bummed that I’ll have to wait a while longer to get it back. It’s understandable why they had to close shop though. I hope they’re back up and running well after April 7th.
The way things are going with this virus, I will be very surprised if the April 7th reopen date holds. Hoping and praying for the best.

So having played it for a day I can honestly say I hope this 76 (my wife named her Marie) is indicative of all Laklands. If so then I am indeed hooked. This thing plays like a dream. Its probably also a little special to me as its the first instrument I set up myself. I got the action just the way I like it (low but not too low) and it seriously plays like Butter.
From what I gather this is fundamentally a 94 neck / body w/the Seymore Duncan in the O.G. Ray position.
With that said...the neck is amazing. The compound radius is stunning and the width at the nut is perfect. Easily the best / fastest neck I've had the pleasure of playing. I love the low cut away on the treble side of the body. The bass side horn hits just at the 13th fret for great balance (similar to my Fenders)
I'm still getting to know the Lakland Pre-amp to be sure. I'm more of a passive Bass guy so active is a new beast to me. I will say that I love setting my amp flat and making my adjustments at the instrument (full treble cut, slight mid boost and generous bass boost. volume all the way up and pad engaged on my amp)

Anyhoo those are my early impressions.

I fear you may be right. I hope they’re at least able to finish up their current unfinished projects.

Agree with you both. Unfortunately I feel this thing is gonna go on longer than originally anticipated and a clear exit strategy for re-opening these businesses was not thoroughly planned I don't think.

Hello people, i need help. Got a Lakland 44-02 in white and want to find a black pickguard for it. Unfortunately internet shows nothing. If someone has a standard pickguard for 44-02, can you please make me a scan, cause i found the dude who can make it but needs a scan to start with. Thanks in advance!

Still working (thankfully) but no gigs in the foreseeable future. Been telling myself repeatedly that there's nothing I need for gear right now. I actually have things I need to unload. Then Reverb hits me with an email...all fiscal responsibility goes right out the window.

55-94 on the way. Good lord, I know not what I've done. :bored:

So got some crazy pictures of my lakies today. The sun was out and I was standing by the window (where the light is strong, according to Leonard Cohen...), and it all just reflected off the basses on to the back of my office chair. Take a look!

Dang, that was a good price. Glad you got it before I saw it ;)

I'll sell it to you! ;):)

It's not the shiniest penny in the bunch but I couldn't afford NOT to bite on it. I love the look of some of those BEM boards but I ultimately prefer a rosewood board.

Who knows when it will actually get here though with all the sheltering in place going on.

Glad you did it, because I got that same email, and it was weighing heavily on me... what an incredible bass for an amazing price.
Congratulations.

Thanks- i also don’t need another bass, but I’d like a rosewood ‘board 55-94. Hope you enjoy it.

Whelp. It looks like I let greed get the best of me. The Reverb listing appears to be fake. It was cross-listed on eBay and after 2+ days of no communication from the Reverb seller or any responses to my email inquiries, I reached out to the eBay seller to see if it was one in the same. Turns out, it isn't. eBay seller had no idea of the Reverb listing and said while it was his bass in his house, it was not his listing as he still has the bass in his possession.

Gah! Working with Reverb now to try and get my money back.

I wouldn’t say greed. More like if it’s too good to be true....

That being said, they did a very good job with the fake ad. It was up for awhile with a higher price, and the sudden price drop when things started getting goofy isn’t unusual... seller location is similar too. i saw the ebay ad up still, figured maybe the guy was busy with other things and forgot to take it down. Oh well, pain in the arse, but you’ll get your $$$ back from Reverb, so that’s good.

I know. I'd been watching it on both sites for a while. I had assumed they tested the deep discount waters on Reverb and then we're hoping to still sell it on eBay within the shipping window for the higher dollar amount and then inform me that the bass was no longer available (it's happened to me before).

The silly thing is, the Reverb seller had no feedback so I relied on the eBay seller's feedback (1000+ responses with 100% positive) to plow through the inner voice telling me to watch out. That's a good lesson to learn.

Ouch... I’m sorry:(
Reverb holds the money until shipping is underway, depending on how much business you’ve done through them. Should turn out ok. Sadly, I predict a lot of good basses popping up here shortly for a great price if you can hold out a bit and wait for the right one...
