I have to agree! I’ve got all kinds of basses and nothing feels as comfy as a 4-94 style body and neck!

I've got a 55-01, first generation, back when you could get a Deluxe. Got several really nice basses, so it doesn't get played a lot. Has my favorite neck of any of my 5 stringers though.

Lovin' the HB30. Massive sound and easy to play. It's a little goofy looking to me with the headstock seeming a little out of proportion - too bad they didn't use the hollowbody style headstock on these.

My listening lately has featured a lot of modern jazz-funk featuring fretless. Now I'm GASsing for a fretless 44-02 but searches suggest that's a pretty rare bird. Argh... LOL

None of the Lakland fretless models are easy to locate used. Trying to sell one of my classics so I don't have to send this 44-94 back to GC.

Might I suggest a 55-02 fretless? They sound AMAZING.

I'm not surprised that they're hard to find used: because most shops don't sell them, the people who own one ordered it themselves, and are therefore probably less likely to part with it. Fretless Skylines aren't 'flipping' instruments. They also don't seem to be that well-known generally: I know for a fact that the body on my bass was made in the first quarter of 2019, but the serial number on the neck starts 1803, i.e. the neck that Lakland put on the body had been lying in the Chicago shop since March 2018.

If you found a 44-02 used, it might be worth asking Lakland if they would just sell you a neck.

Let me know before you return the fretless 4-94, I may be interested (too much listening to Tony Levin with Peter Gabriel makes me think I can play a fretless :D )

P+7 days and I'm in the middle of a weird ménage à six between Reverb, PayPal, Apple Credit, the person who received payment (Jomar Tusoy Pantinople), the fake person (Pamela Olson) who listed the bass on Reverb, and the actual owner of the bass on eBay. Reverb won't do anything at this point other than shut down the seller's profile, deferring to PayPal to resolve it. We all know PayPal wants you to work it out with the seller before they'll get involved so in my attempt to do so, I find the person who received the payment from Reverb was actually hired by this mysterious "Pam Olson" to conduct the PayPal transaction and convert the dollars to Bitcoin. All he's done thus far is said he's can't do anything but provide me with some bizarre contact info for the Reverb "seller" (skype: live:.cid.929997f66ce4345 Email: xxxx). :bored:

Now there's no way in heck I'm reaching out to a Skype account made up of random letters and numbers. Meanwhile, I reached out to Apple Credit who is researching the transaction on their end but has at least credited the dollars back to my account in the interim. The actual owner of the bass that is listed for real on eBay has been awesome. He sent me a photo today of him holding the bass in front of his TV showing the date and time so there's proof that the Reverb listing is fake. I need to wait several more hours before I can escalate to PayPal which will put this into a long review cycle but I'm hoping that Apple Credit swings in here in the next day to say they're good and the money is returned for good.

All I'm gonna say is it's good I'm stuck in a Stay At Home directive and can't really do much else at this point but research my stupid Reverb transaction.

Here's the actual bass, sitting comfortably with its owner earlier today.

I'm keeping the stock Bart pickups but upgrading the preamp. Advice on here as well as other forums indicate the NTMB pre really brings out the character of the stock pickups.
