Yeah, I saw that on the ad for this bass when I traded for it. The guy said it "needed a good setup" which is usually code for "it has neck issues." It did but it's good now. The instrument had obviously been neglected, but with the improvements you made, I figured it could be salvaged and turned back into a prize, so I took a gamble. The Yammie I traded him didn't need a thing and he immediately turned to flip it. It's not the best trade I ever made, but I won't get hurt in the deal when I'm done showing it some love. It will probably even find its way into the mix between my DJ-5 and my Stingray 5HH. Before I disassembled it, I plugged it in and it sounds pretty sweet.

I love stories like that... well minus the almost getting ripped off part... but a little elbow grease can turn a neglected bass that many people would reject without a second thought into a really beautiful instrument.

I have flats on all my basses. I use Dunlop’s, Chromes, and TIs strung through with no issue. The only ones I’ve had break are LaBellas that were not designated as string-through. However, I play finger style, and playing hard with a pick near the bridge may be an issue.

Quarantine boredom lead me to begin looking at schematics. I found one for the Sadowsky pedal preamp, I had all of the components and made it yesterday. It sounds fantastic, especially with my DJ5. I need to play another DJ5 to see if they are all special, or if it's jut mine.

Using a Genzler Magellan 800 and a Bergantino AE410, the bass DJ5 was already incredible, but that Sadowsky preamp takes it to another level. I hope that I never have to part with my DJ5.

Not worried about that, would only make for my friends and not for profit ;). Besides, I tweaked it to my liking and 90% of the pedals on the market are clones of other pedals. Besides, I can't find a patent was ever filed.

I don’t think you can copyright circuit designs - and it would have to be doing something very new for it to be patentable

Just out of curiosity : are there any patented schematics? I could see something like that new tc electronic mash footswitch having a patent, ie mechanisms or designs, but does anyone have a patent for a pedals internals?

I'm sure that there are some, but probably expired by now. There are some many clones and variations of a Tube Screamer, FuzzFace, Big Muff, Rat, etc that everyone has a version that they think is better than the original.

Like me, I started making pedals because I wanted a specifc ounds and the ability to tweak to what works for my set ups.

This thing is MINT! '05 model. Really digging the tone. I like it much more than the 55-02 I previously had tone wise (though I wish this one was a 5'er, but I'm not complaining... at least it's not a 3'er). Going to make a short vid on this tonight and will be tossing some TI flats on here..... I'm very excited.
