reminds me of a Mike Lull PT4, and I've owned a few of those. very nice.

Yeah I considered either a lull or a bluesman vintage but I’ve always like Laklands a lot so I sent a picture of a similar bass to John and like I said he was really enthusiastic about doing it.

The pickups are Thunderbucker 66 and it’s a dual stack knob passive volume and tone like the 44-60 basses.
If you’re ever considering having one made and have the patience and the scratch I highly recommend it, John was really enthusiastic about doing it the way I wanted.

Very nice, nobody does necks like Lakland, they really are the best in the business. Downside living in Australia, it will cost two arms and a leg, by the time it gets here.

Hey all, been a minute since I've stopped by. I hope you all are well.

I am probably digging up an old, tired question here, but was hoping someone had a favorite neck/fretboard cleaning product/process. I think Lakland recommends orange oil, which seems much harder to find than I would have first thought. Anyone got something that keeps their neck factory smooth?

All I use is F-ONE Oil, ever since hearing Roger Sadowsky talk about it, in a setup video. It’s for fretboards.

For the back of the neck, I believe Lakland (I know Carl uses it) uses Tru Oil thinned out with mineral spirits, on the US necks. I’ve yet to reapply Tru Oil to any Lakland necks. But, I’ve sanded off all the finish on many non-Lakland necks and applied 100% Tru Oil (several layers) to them. It can leave a thick glossy finish, a thick satin style finish, or a thin oiled feel finish, dependent on how you apply and how much you sand in between coats and after the final.

Great Idea that way the volume and pickup blend control really stick out when your reaching for them on a dark stage or while singing.

I was luckily and fortunate enough to purchase a Sunburst Lakland 55-94 (Lined Fretless) Thank You Jobone!
It’s a fantastic instrument and a perfect match with my fretted Amber 55-94. Here are some pictures.

I sanded down my skyline neck and used Tri oil to finish it and it was like butter. I still have the tru oil.

Yes. Just make sure you let it dry throughly. You don’t want tiny steel wool fragments stuck in the oil.

If you just want a J bass....this is a great way to go but the 5502 is more versatile.

Also...to let you know... The DJ has a body that is smaller than a fender J.

If you want the same size you have to go to a 5560 model

Gonna go ahead and disagree with you here: got a DJ4 and 55-02 and yes, the 55-02 is more versatile, but it´s smoother sounding overall. the DJ is the more aggressive sound to my ears, so I´d say for hard rock/metal you´d be better off with the DJ. Add an external preamp pedal if you want flexibility.
