Lakland Owners Group #69

She plays well with my Carvin LB75fl and the MM pickup location is only 1/16" difference.

As for stickiness, the cobalts aren’t silky smooth like Dunlop flats or LaBella LTFs. But, I don’t have any issues sliding. Do some searching and you’ll find lots of reviews and comparison talk.

Purty. I had the “vintage” truss rod nut swapped to a hex one when I took my new to me ‘99 55-94 in to Carl to get it checked out/set up (it was in a LOT better shape though). I’m not a huge fan of the philips head ones, but one of these does make it easier (assuming you don’t have to remove the neck :rollno::rollno::rollno: ). It’s just a glorified flat head screwdriver, but it does a good job.

It does not clean up basements though ;)

I just picked this one up from the classifieds last week.

1998 55-94 deluxe. My first owned Lakland and man, what a nice bass. Needed a little setup work but it dialed in just fine.

the barts sound great, I'm one of the weird ones who lowered the preamp gain way down lol.

Great neck profile, I barely notice the difference in scale length too. B string is killer!

Question... how do the Cobalts compare feel wise with their regular slinky flats.. when I first tried flats, I tried the slinks, because I'd played the rounds for years... I absolutely hated them.. the sound, and they felt... sticky, for lack of a better word trying to do slides was impossible

the stickiness wears off after about 4-6 hours of play

I hope everybody knows to wipe down new strings, before installing them. I use alcohol, Naphtha, or mineral spirits and I always get a bunch of gray residue off flats. Rounds don’t have as much residue usually. I think it’s a coating applied to preserve the strings. All I know is, I don’t want it.

I was today old when I learned this....I've never wiped off strings when new lol....even though I methodically wipe them down after playing.

After years of not doing it, I finally made a 50 inch 1" diameter PVC tube to soak my strings. Drove over town looking for IPA, no one has it in 99% purity.

Sorry about the set screw... That's crazy!

Maybe Lakland can fix it

Is it normal for the 55-02 to have a huge volume drop with the pickup blend knob set directly in the middle? I just had my shop convert the bass back to stock (except for a 500k volume pot) after having it wired passive with different pickups for a few years. Trying to figure out if the shop may have wired it up incorrectly of if this is normal behavior for the Lakland pickups/LH3 preamp setup.

Haven't noticed any volume drop issues on my LH3 55-02
