I briefly owned a 44-02, something I thought I'd really like until I soon found out that the way it sat on me was just unnatural. I gave it a few months but it never felt right and so I traded it. It was really unfortunate because I love the electronics and the sound. The way it sat was not the only reason though, the other I'll get to below.

I should say that I am quite happy with my Decade and 44-64, all Skylines.

When test driving a compressor at at high-end local music shop I had the choice some Skyline 44-01s and 44-02s.

When I used one of those, it had the same other issue that my 44-02 had - the G string would pull off the fretboard when playing. I don't get this with the Decade or 44-64, and I have experienced this now on 3 different 44-01s / 44-02s.

The Decade and 44-64 have thinner necks than the -01 and -02, so I'm wondering if this pattern is a known issue for some -01 and -02 configurations.

There is a used non-44-64 for sale remotely that interests me, but for buying something sight-unseen I'm concerned about the G pull issue with it, so checking here with the community if anyone else has seen this, before I pull the trigger from multiple states away.

What do you mean by a ‘non-44-64’?

For what it’s worth, I’ve had multiple 55-01’s and 44-64’s, none of which have had the G issue you speak of.

Here is the reply I got from Lakland regarding a replacement pickguard

“I'm sorry, but we don't offer replacement pickguards.

However, either of these firms could make a custom replacement for you.

Weird; I ordered mine from Lakland just a couple of months ago. No issues at all.

Was yours a model that comes with a pickguard stock? This could be dated info, but a while back I asked them about pickguards for Skylines and they said that they aren't made with the holes in consistent locations. So, the models that come with pickguards already, have to have replacement guards custom made. They can send you one for a model that does not come with a pickguard because they do not have to match the screw holes.

That may be it then. I ordered a guard without screw holes, but that was only specified late in the exchange. But maybe they will only make guards for certain nodels

They do for certain models, I ordered two for my Skyline 55-02 a couple of months ago, but last month asked for a replacement one for my 44-64 GZ and received the same answer you got.

You can also check out Mike Quick at Quick Guards. He has Lakland templates and you can order a number of different materials/patterns/colors.

I picked up a pearl one from him for my 55-01 in the style of a stingray and a tort for my 55-64.

Well no, I’ve not experienced this issue with the various 55-01’s I’ve owned, including my current one, nor with my custom US 44-PJ either.
