I love the 2815 set (95-70-60-40) for EADG tuning. Then I get a 130 for the BEAD tunings. They sometimes discolor or rust but I can’t feel it and they sound the same.
That's a nicer description than I typically use, but I think your description captures it perfectly.
I have played that bass and it truly is one of the best playing basses let alone Lakland I have ever played!
Well, #85 came back home today. Holy gods! I gave it some TLC, and the neck....the neck is truly incredible! Like the most incredible J carve imaginable. The Bart system is very different than anything they're making now. It literally has been 25 years and a month since I last saw the bass, and it's staying with me from here forward! I am going to gig the sh*t out of this bass again.

I have some cobalt on a p bass. They've been on there for years with no problems and sound great.

Check out the non-stamped string-through only bridge and super rounded fingerboard edges. Just a crazy-good sounding and playing bass!

No, I just ordered what Dan and Hugh were doing at the time. The fingerboard is one of the prettiest, most prime pieces of hard Indian rosewood I have ever seen! There is slight hue to the straight grain. Hard as a rock.

Should be the vintage 6230 wire then. Maybe they look bigger to me cause they’re so bright and shiny.
I'm not sure when Carl came into the Lakland fold, but this is the information he sent me about frets when I needed a refret of a 90's 55-94.

The Stewmac 148 wire is said to be .084 wide and .039 tall, and Lakland's website says the fret wire for a 44-94 is .085 & .041 which is close enough, I suppose. Dunlop says their 6230 is .079 & .043 and I can't see a difference when I'm holding Dunlop 6230 and Stewmac 148 wire side-by side. I don't know why every different manufacturer shows different widths and heights for their vintage small wire. I always say 6230 when I'm talking about vintage fretwire because I can remember that number, LOL. Maybe I can remember 148 now too??
Nice bass...my basses overseas cousin! Note the slightly wider nut. The 1.5 nut, IMO, should be a standard feature or at least advertised option on USA models. I just asked Hugh, "Hey, can you make it jazz width at the nut?" He just replied with "Ok!" Back when you called and Dan answered.
Your bass is killer !!! A piece of history also. Cherryburst is probably my favorite color, I hope to own a USA model with matching headstock eventually
