Will someone just post a picture of a dead horse, call this thread beyond hope, and call it a day already? Namraj has heard plenty of similar but differently-approached opinions and it remains in his court for action.
There.. Are we done yet?

By refusing to use the accepted paradigm of language you unnecessarily increase the chances of being misunderstood.
with the case of ebonics its not only a matter of understanding but identity. The black community in New Orleans clearly like the connection it brings them to eachother, just like my swedish relatives that speak swedish to eachother when not in the company of non-swedish people, even tho english is their first language (born and bred brits moved to and became citizens of sweden). its because it connects them to eachother and makes them as a group different from the british relatives, but different in a interesting originality way rather than a segregating way.
and at now 103 posts this is by no means a failed thread considering i only started it about 2 hours ago. and its done exactly what i wanted (stopped me being bord) and opened an interesting discussion, even if i am the only one on my side![]()
o ok, cool, yeah I agree, and dw about clarity, it helps prove my point as even people with immaculate english can be misunderstood, its not about the type of english but the content contained within.
I'm not sure I agree, i'm pretty sure I havn't had any responses saying "i don't understand" or answering their misunderstanding, where as i have seen many very well written posts being misunderstood, i think by using a rich vocab you increase your chance of being misunderstood should we discourage this as well.

not sure that's a fair comment, but w/e, also my incorrect spelling isn't lazyness it is an inability to spell and an effort to make it understandable al the same.
thats my point, i don't mind people writing correctly at all, in fact if you have the time and the effort please do, what i dislike is people being attacked because of their bad spelling, or grammar, particually if its clearly just because the attacker doesn't like the point made in the post.
I've seen a few unnecessary borderline ad hominems already. Not awesome.
Txtspeak and/or l33tspeak don't have the similar resources available. .
Let's face it: coming in as the new guy with very little profile,
using 'l337 sp34k' 'u r nt' going t0' get much respect. Then
you post a rant to complain that you are upset about a forum
you chose to join and whose subleties you don't bother to learn or observe. Then, when you find that the overwhelming opinion is that we don't really think much of
your continual bastardization of the written word, you want
to debate the point that it perfectly 'ok' and we should 'embrace it'.
Pardon me, I have to regurgitate, such obstreperousness
upsets my stomach.
You've just shot yourself in the foot right there. English, and the proper usage of it, is what connects us - that's part of our understanding and identity. You are purposely trying to ostracize yourself from a community of bassists who generally choose to use proper grammar, and yet you chide us for being uptight about it. Think about it - what if I, as a white man, were to walk around New Orleans speaking ebonics? I think it would be rather insulting to the the community, both to blacks and to whites. Why? Because both group realize that it's not proper english, and my speaking it reveals the ridiculousness of it. Accents are one thing - choosing to be lazy, both in speech and in writing, is insulting to all of us who claim to be english speakers.
That about puts a lid on it right there.![]()
see i'd have said it was you who just shot yourself in the foot, do you not think you have the right to use the same partois as black people and not be frowned upon because of it, would you frown upon a black person using a typicly white partois such as old school posh style "damn and blast". identity is not only about being part of a group but being an indervidual with in that group, I am part of the comunity of bass players, what connects me to you guys is my love and ability on my choosen instrument, what makes me indervidual is my love for obscure electro and latin music as well as my own partois that has evolved from my frequent keyboard use which however gets frequently attacked by people who think they are better than me because they speak good english.
but dw i don't form bad opinions of people, only indifference and good opinions.
The lack of grammar, capitalization and spelling, prevented me from understanding what you're saying.
frankly cos ur not interested dusn't mean no one else wants to discuss this. if you think it is a waste of your time stop responding, certainly with completely useless and negative posts.

Actually, considering Maki is an English teacher, his opinion may add quite a bit to this discussion if only you asked him nicely.frankly cos ur not interested dusn't mean no one else wants to discuss this. if you think it is a waste of your time stop responding, certainly with completely useless and negative posts.
So you are telling me that you suffer from dyslexia or another
language or cognitive dysfunction that limits your ability to
read and write legibly? Pardon me if, based on some of your
other posts (which have been just fine by the way), I don't buy that.
