Oh, on the topic of strings. I wanna try out DR Extra Life on my MID 4003. I wanted the silver ones, but the shops are out. What do you guys reckon Black Beauties or Red Devils on the MID? Or one of the Neons.

An update. They stood firm on the "No Canadian billing" but fortunately my Business Partner and his wife live in NY so I called them and they put the order on their card and I'll just pay them when it comes through. Order reinstated and at the same price.

I'd love it if they offered me a MapleGlo but I'm also good with waiting on a Blue one.

Since I already have a Mapleglo 4001, I opted for Jetglo. The customer service rep said Fireglo was also available, but I'm not sure about Mapleglo - I didn't ask.

Did you just ask? I tried Music123 to see if they would price match a maple one to the blue ones at MF, and they wouldn't do it.

Did you say, "instead of waiting for the blue one to come in, may I have a black one?"

I have seen and handled and played a new Ric with the new thinner profile. The fretboard it still just as wide but the thickness front to back is thinner. The new necks feel better in my hand. These necks have full width inlays and the back of the neck is 2 pieces of wood glued together so that are stronger and thinner.

I told the guy that I received an email backorder notice and asked if I could get a different color instead of the MID. He checked inventory and said that Jetglo was available. I pointed out that I ordered the MID at the sale price and I also applied a coupon code and asked if I could get the Jetglo at the same total cost. He put me on hold for a couple minutes and said yes.

Well I called MF today ... they told me it would ship in 2013 ... So I asked if I could swap for a different color. I was hoping for fireglo ... but they offered a Jetglo for the $1100 I paid. VERY COOL So it should be here in a week.

Just curious, what exactly happened in the last decade that caused Ricks to jump up in price so much? I bought my first bass, a Rick, for about $1100. I ended up trading it and not realizing that it had inflated in price so much for a p-bass last year. Not a big deal because I'd grown tired of the tone and I cannot imagine paying $2000 for the sucker and mine was flawless, but I did miss out on a bit of cash.

Rickenbacker International Corporation raised the prices and limited the supply.

Haven't Fenders gone up too? It's at least partly a matter of inflation. The other issue is high demand/low supply.

I'll say this AGAIN, these basses don't cost $2,000... I get a little tired of seeing that price thrown around. They're easily had for $1700. The most I've ever paid is $1600 and my most recent is a 2010. Or should we treat all basses like this and say MIA Fenders cost $1500?

You have to shop around to get that price, though. And it's not going to be listed anywhere on any website. The standard MF price (not list, the price that gets emailed to people) is 1900-something, isn't it?

ETA: The MF price is $1949. So $2k is a lot closer to that than the $2159 MSRP of a Ric.

Meanwhile the street price of a Fender is listed out there for all to see. And, equivalent to shopping around for a $1700 Ric, you can usually get 10% or more off of a Fender in the store.

Correction. They are not "easily had" for $1700. They can occasionally be found on sale for a few hundred off, but that is a rare occurrence. RICs MAP price on a new 4003 exceeds $1900. A new MIA Fender can be purchased from ANY retailer for approximately $1200.

UPS picked up my Fireglo yesterday for it's return jouney to Kansas and this morning I received an email from UPS stating that my replacement has been shipped!
I am hoping that it gets here by Friday, giving me the weekend to mess around with it.
I am also hoping that this one doesn't have the flaws of my first one!
Also, to those who have received their Rics, were they shipped in a "Ric" box or were they shipped in another box.
