LB70 - SHOULD I BUY IT?

Found this on craigslist and the guy is willing to sell it to me for $250. I'm going to check it out tomorrow.

I hate that he installed a thumb rest.

He bought it used from GC about a year ago and he thinks it's from the 90's. He doesn't know much about the wood or anything like that. But he says he's a guitar tech and did a set up on the bass and it has a fresh set of strings and it's in great shape.

Any thoughts on this bass? Seems like a great deal and a nice diverse bass to go with my g&l jb2

Even with a thumb rest it is hard to beat for 250. Thats a great deal. Add in the pretty decent looking fretboard, drop tuner, set up and new strings it is even harder to beat. Even if it does not supply you with a single new tone from the G&L it cant hurt to have a back up or a bass kicking around in a different tuning.

Good point there. It could turn out to be even more fun to play than my jb2. I'm definitely going to check it out tomorrow and hopefully it plays well.

heck yeah man, I'd buy it. Electronics is an easy project. Even busted-neck project LBs tend to sell for more than that on ebay. Plus that maple fretboard is sweet!

If there were no other custom options ordered, which its usually safe to assume is the case in solid colors - that bass would be a maple neckthru, and alder wings. I think its generally always Ebony fretboard standard. You'd be able to tell the wood right away in the cavity though

Also its not the early 90s style bridge its a later, probably hipshot I believe. Nicer bridges to some extent. May be upgraded later of course, thats common with these basses. I'd consider that added value personally.

I paid twice that for mine and feel like I got a steal. If there's nothing wrong with it when you play it, you will be getting a great bass for a dirt cheap price- if you don't buy it please let me know! Mine does have the single coil neck pick-up, but I love HHs, so if you do buy it and want to trade, I might be interested ; )
