Huh. What a great find. Barring any issues, I'd have to hit that myself. And I need another bass like I need another 'roid.

For all the myriad ways to config a Carvin, that one is unusual....all passive, dual humbuckers with coil tap, Hipshot "A" bridge & detuner, black hardware, b/e board, matching color stock. I love it, almost sounds too good to be true.

Pretty sure Carvin still has truss covers available for that model.

Found this on craigslist and the guy is willing to sell it to me for $250. I'm going to check it out tomorrow.

I hate that he installed a thumb rest.

He bought it used from GC about a year ago and he thinks it's from the 90's. He doesn't know much about the wood or anything like that. But he says he's a guitar tech and did a set up on the bass and it has a fresh set of strings and it's in great shape.

Any thoughts on this bass? Seems like a great deal and a nice diverse bass to go with my g&l jb2

Yes. Do not hesitate. My Carvin LB70 is by far the best I have owned.

Early 90's had Sperlock locking tuners. Changed in 95. May give you an idea on how old. Mine is a 93

That's a smokin' deal. Prices for used Carvins has went up since the SB Series (J-Bass)Just beware. These LB Series basses are real sleepers. I own a few high-end, boutique basses, and my LB75KOA has been my main player since I purchased it new. That's 16 years, gigging it every single weekend. It'll always be my main player, unless I literally wear it out.

I myself can only dream, as I'm now into my 8th month of "not one red cent" on a new bass. Yesterday was a real trial for me, as a local store had a G&L L-1500 available for $650.

The price you're talking about for that Carvin is awesome.

Not that unusual. It is a LB20 which was an all passive LB70. Those humbucker are passive so why not ?

I noticed that in the description too. That would have me worried, as an unfinished neck may have encountered some warping, thus why the seller may be letting it go for so low a price. Check it out in person if possible and get that neck sealed with something if you buy it. Other than that, seems like a great deal. Personally, I'd add a preamp to give you some more shaping with those MM style humbuckers. YMMV, just a suggestion.

I doubt this is the case, I have a Carvin finished in tung oil, it feels very natural but it isn't, it can't. Just like some people say EBMM has unfinished neck ...

Also Carvin instruments don't keep their value at all.

+1. I'm almost positive the neck has a tung oil finish.

Of course u should buy it! for that price if worst comes to worst you could always resell it if it doesn't meat your needs !

I saw an 90's LB75 at guitar center last month. Was amazed at how well made and solid it was.
Would have snagged it if I wasn't buying a Magellan 800 that weekend. Checked back a couple weeks later and it was sold.
