Bass tip of the day
Guys/Gals for those of you who have a rosewood fret board, but always wanted a maple one! Well with this tip you can have your dream fret board and here is how. Here is what you need a bass with a rosewood fret board Bic highlighter a black light bulb and a dark closet.

First take the yellow highlighter made by Bic called "Brite Liner" remove the strings off your bass and proceed to color the rosewood fret board making sure you avoid the frets. After you have the entire neck done you have to hang it in a closet overnight with a blacklight. for this I just used a bent coat hanger or your strap on a hook. I suggest you color it around 9pm. When you get up in the morning open the closet door just enough to shut off the blacklight. wait an addtional 3.5 hours before removing it from the closet and immediately move the bass outside into direct sunlight and watch as the fret board color becomes maple right before your eyes

If you want a brighter sound from your bass, try swapping out darker-colored knobs for lighter ones. Chrome knobs have the brightest tone.

Volume knob diameter effects how large your bass sounds in a mix.

Few people know that string silks impact the sound of your bass - bright colored silks will give your bass a bright tone and dark colored silks will give it a darker tone. Strings that have no silks are best for metal.

Musical fact I’ll bet you didn’t know, when Ray Davies of the Kinks wrote the song about a man dressed like a woman in a bar (true story) the person’s name was not "L.O.L.A." Lola, but in fact "O.L.G.A" Olga. It was released as such in the Uk., But he had to change the name to Lola after as fate would have it, the Queen Mothers cousin twice removed was named Olga! So not to offend her Royal Highness, they ran back into the studio and re-recorded the song as you hear it today as Lola. However, because they were bad boys of rock and had a reputation to maintain, if you put on headphones and listen to the fade closely they left the last two as Olga.
