I didn't know that, but I did know that Brian Wilson - bemoaning the state of his damaged surfboard - wanted to name his band's 11th album Sand in my Crack. He was dissuaded by Paul McCartney, who thought Wilson had progressed far beyond Surf Music and produced something revolutionary, 'phoning Wilson to tell him he thought it was "The dog's bo**ocks"With a bad line and McCartney's Scouse accent, Wilson thought he was talking about "the dog barks" audible on one of the tracks (*not misinformation). Remembering the advice of his musical mentor, Eric Morecambe, that a mistake should be repeated to make it look intentional, Wilson told him that he was calling the album Pet Sounds.
John Lennon, listening in on an even worse extension, thought he'd said Pot Sounds and decided he'd try mind-altering substances to create some classic tunes and Revolution 9 was the result.
He originally started as a drummer and was only just learning guitar at that point and hadn't fully got the hang of it.
If you have a solid body guitar or bass with multiple pieces of wood, you should definitely check what sort of glue is holding it together to ensure it is tone glue, otherwise your instrument will sound bad. The panda hide glue used in pre-CBS Fenders is no longer available. Ensure the pickup wiring is from lightweight swamp copper.
For authentic tone in bluegrass or old time music, make sure you wear an onion on your belt, or at the very least, from your instrument's headstock. If the tea chest bass is too loud, simply fill it with tea. If the rhythm is lacklustre, fill the bassist with tea.
You can't get the old tin/lead solder anymore. And that is what makes old instruments sound so good. It is tone solder.

This is also the case with amps. The epic sound of tube amps isn't the tubes, it's the solder!
You also need to make sure the swamp copper in the wiring is of correct vintage. New swamp copper doesn't sound the same as old swamp copper. I've been hoarding vintage copper in a jar over in the corner that's obtainable for a price...and the land it came from.

You are claiming that there is no such thing as tone solder!? THAT sir, is nonsense!
My apologies. I was hoping to show that you can, in fact, get the old tin/lead solder anymore. To be sure, vintage soldering irons and guns are available too.
It's also important to get period-correct screwdrivers for removing access panels.
It's a well known tragedy that many historically important bass guitars suffer failed repairs due to the use of modern fastener removal and/or installation hardware and techniques. Don't even get me started on wire-cutters. And I'll ignore the government conspiracy theories about covert changes to capacitor values in the late 1950's for the moment.
I wouldn't trust it. You really need to get NOS tin/lead solder for the best tone.
Blimey, it's become the Plexi Palace Vintage Amps forum. I've used one of those vintage Weller soldering irons on my classic/lawsuit/sought after '70s Satellite Startercaster (the one with twin toasters and a rhythm/treble switch). The Weller set it ablaze like a campfire in seconds, but the crackling flames sounded just like Jimi's.
