In the 1980s many metal bands had similar stipulations due to the big hair. Spandex became popular as it reduces drag on the rest of the body, reducing the risk of being blown away. Tube watts are louder than solid state watts because glass being a good insulator, will keep all the loudness inside before delivering it to the speakers. Silicon leaks loudness all over.

It's true! I tell you it knocks all crackles out! You know? Those sounds that people always blame those poor maligned pots for being "noisy".
