Line 6 HX Effects

This very well could work for you for forever with no issues. Some other people are having some success with these types of powering methods as well. I know me though, unless I'm only using the HX by itself, I won't power it with anything but the provided supply. I've tired using my CS7's to power it and it powers. But piratically shuts off on its own which tells me that's not good. Knowing the supplied power gives it it's own 3 amps is comforting. Kind of annoying? Yes! haha but a small price to pay IMO. But when I take the HX off my board and just use it I use a 1spot with the 2 adapters and it works great. It's just when its on a board sharing power with other pedals I haven't had luck so I stop taking those "risks" so to speak.

Interesting. I've been messing around with programming and such lately, and I've had the HX on for long periods of time with no shut-off. I gigged this past weekend with it connected to only the 2-400mA outlets, and got through two 3-hour gigs without a single hiccup.

Looks like the 4x4 has a total current output of around 2A (2,000mA), which may be a conservative rating. I know I've powered pedals with a current draw of between 110-140mA off a single 100mA outlet with no problems, so I'm guessing there may be more on tap than Voodoo Lab shows. Overall, I'm using about 683mA on all my other pedals, leaving a total of 1317mA potentially available to the HX, if the unused current goes where it's needed, otherwise I'm still at 1000mA. The total current draw for everything is under the overall rated output of the power supply, so I think I'll be ok, but only time will tell!

Hey guys, while I'm waiting for my HXFX I thought I'd ask a question. How many of you are using part of the HX through your effects loop? I have a GK 1001RB and i thought I should try routing the delay/verb stuff through the loop. does it need too? Thanks and I can't wait til it gets here!

I run HxFx through the effects loop of my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2. I have tried through FX loop, 4CM and bass->HxFx->amp, and both active and passive basses.

The absolute winner is FX loop.
I don't know why, maybe the tube in the Shuttle preamp... I almost cannot tell difference between DSP clean and mecanical bypass, and I could say that the difference isn't the sound but the feeling

I use it that way with my guitar amp. I typically use more delay and verb there and noticed a big difference in clarity with the driven tones. Having the preamp get dirty and routing the delay after just made everything more articulate. Some of the modulation stuff has been fine either way. For bass I just run into the front of my amp but I use way less delay on it.

Just emailed Voodoo Lab out of curiosity and this was their reply:

Hi Nick,

The actual current draw* of HX Effects is less than 900mA and thus simply using two 9VDC high current capacity (note, the 400mA is a conservative rating... 450mA per output is doable) outputs will suffice.

*It is quite common for effects/pedals to be labeled to match the specifications of some included/OEM power supply (as labeling them differently can often times confuse the end user). When however, in reality, these effects/pedals will have an actual current draw (mA) that is (far) less than this specified/labeled value. Note: sometimes, the actual current draw can be found in the manual (appendix/specs).

Hope this helps.

I just updated my HX Effects to 2.71 and I get no sound. If I go into bypass mode and it's DSP bypass, it's no sound. If it's analog bypass, I have sound.

Some other folks on the Line 6 forum are having the same problem. I reverted back to 2.70 and things are back to normal.

Has anyone successfully upgraded to 2.71?

I have. I havent had any issues as of yet. Did you try doing a factory reset first then updating to 2.71? That may work.

I updated it to 2.71 when i first got it about a month/ month and a half ago. Never an issue.
