The only thing that’s better with the HXFX is the user interface. Outside of Amps and Cabinets, they share the same Helix/Legacy models.
I found the same thing. But, if you spend some time with a few of them, they will reward you. I’ve found a few really good synth tones in it. Just had to fiddle a bit.
I'll play a bit more but I don't see the Stomp replacing my 4 or Future Impact soon. Not that I'm whining... was just wondering if there was something I had overlooked.
Oh no, I wouldn’t see it doing that either. I have a C4 on my board still
but the helix models can get some decent synth sounds with time spent. I’m hoping they add a more popular synth model soon and or update the old ones. I’d prefer they just a dedicated “digitech bass synth wah” or heaven forbid a Moogerfooger freqbox or the like. Something somewhat well known yet not so easy to acquire. I know some of the ones in there are actually just that! haha but idk. They aren’t very user friendly so to speak. I was really excited about the murf when they added it. And it is cool. But I never really found an awesome sound I’d use. There’s one on the stereo synth category that I really liked. Can’t remember the model was called atm though.
The legacy synths are the best options in the Helix line. They can't compete with the C4 or the FI, but there are usable sounds there. I used an M5 as my synth/octaver for a long time before I bought the C4. Alone the Legacy synths are bland, but they shine when you send them through some drive or assign expression to the frequency or pitch.
If you have those as synths, you will find nothing better.
You literally own the two best synth pedals on the market, by a long margin.
my feeling as well. I keep thinking I can get down to one and then I sit down with the few patches I use on each and am reminded that they are more complimentary than a substitute for each other.

I was suspicious about the hype regarding oversampling improvements, but whatever caused it, I'm noticing a surprising improvement in audio clarity.

Came over to an HX Effects from the HX Stomp a few weeks ago, and used it for a live video shoot this weekend. Definitely didn't disappoint.
I love the editing on the HXFX, especially compared to the HX Stomp. I no longer have to open up HX Edit every time I want to change a parameter or experiment with something new. Such a killer unit.
I mostly get by with a single main preset, containing a couple of drives, a chorus, an octaver and a compressor. Other than that, I have a couple of "specialised" presets, such as a Hold preset where I can lay down a droning tone or chord and noodle on top with some ambience. Great for when the guitar player is tuning.
The Atomic Ampli-Firebox is my direct solution, used for both guitar and bass. It's got some great guitar amps, and a couple of pretty decent bass amps (the Fender Bassman is very nice, while the SVT is far too bright for my taste).
I can also run it just as an IR loader, or a pure direct box if I want to. Pretty flexible, and very useful in a live setting. I can feed the HX Effects to my amp, while the direct signal gets amp modeling and cab simulation as well, applied as needed.

You do realize that every single parameter is adjustable from the interface on the HX Stomp, right?
Yes, but it's a hell of a lot more fiddly. With the Stomp, it was easier to open HX Edit, but with the HX Effects it's easier to just do it on the unit.
Because of this, my Stomp presets tended to grow stale over time, because I could never be bothered tweaking them. With the HXFX, I make little adjustments constantly, either just tweaking a parameter, swapping out whole blocks or screwing around with pathing.
The Stomp is an amazing little unit, and ultra-powerful for its size, so don't think I'm hating on it. The FX just works a lot better for me and my requirements.

I'm kind of the opposite. I rarely open up HX Edit because it's an inconvenience for me to remove the unit from my board and take it to the computer to hook up. So I do all my adjustments on the Stomp. I regularly update my presets and tweak (I create separate presets per song so I have a bunch).
Yeah, everyone finds what works for them. My board sits next to my computer whenever I'm at home anyway, so HX Edit became the norm.
I'm sure I could have learned to edit on the HX Stomp if I wanted to, and the HXFX editing was just one reason for the switch. First and foremost, I wanted the increased footswitch flexibilty without having to add several different external utility pedals.
I also like this setup where my amp modeler and DI unit is separate, both because of the freed up DSP and because I can build presets without having to worry about whether I need to design it to go in front of an amp or go direct. This board handles both scenarios at the same time, with the same HXFX preset.
I don’t know about a lot of you but I use the hx stomp with conjunction with the darkglass Adam the Adam has a crappy ir that they need to fix so I use the stomps ir and use a bit of eq to fine tune my sound I like the amps with the stomp but I really like what I get with the Adam even with it’s flaws the only reason I use the stomp is a record a lot and use it as a interface I would like to use the hx effects with the Adam live tho I can do the same thing with effects as I use on the effects even use a di out so I don’t need an amp and just use snap shots for effects when I need them. The midi works so well with the Adam so I can just do all my focus on the hx effects.
You can load other IRs into the ADAM. The Darkglass suite has something like 500 cabs to choose from.
