Line 6 HX Effects

Oh, that was the second option I mentioned, "whatever speed you left it at". But, that said, it might illustrate the question more, though: if you left it at "slow" when you set up the effect, but then turn it on with the expression rocked forward, would it then go even slower as you rock it backward, or would it "catch up" to the exp position somehow?

Well, it wouldn't be the speed you left it at last time you used it, it would be the speed it was saved at when editing the preset. That's what I was getting at.

As for the second part, it would always move between the parameter limits you set. If it's saved at its slowest setting and the pedal is all the way forward, it would instantly jump to the fast setting when you start moving the pedal.

Ah okay, that's sort of what I had meant, just worded poorly. Thanks!

For #3: how would one do that in stompbox mode, since it looks like you can't assign an effect without touching the footswitch first?
You can assign an effect in the signal flow window, doesn’t need a foot switch assigned.

I’ve had mine for 3(?) years now, and it never ceases to surprise me. The HXFX interface is the first ever, IME, that never feels like an obstruction. I never hook it to a computer outside of firmware updates, and I can achieve all programming and configuration on the unit itself. Sonic character and modeling quality are subjective and can be debated endlessly, but the user interface is, measurably and objectively superior, especially compared to the Stomp.

Absolutely this. I haven't hooked up the USB editor since the first couple of days of owning mine. With the HX Stomp, I did 100% of my editing on the computer, because the onboard interface was just so fiddly.

@DDXdesign I could go on for pages about the cool ways I’ve used my HXFX, but I’m tired, so I’ll be brief.
Anything and everything I have dreamed up, the HXFX has abided. And the HXFX has given me stuff I would never have dreamed of. Supremely configurable, I’ve gigged with just an HXFX, a small board with the HXFX and 2 or 3 pedals, and a medium board with HXFX and 7 or 8 pedals. And, I think the models are excellent.

Starting to realize that all my pedal auditioning and flipping is starting to approach ye olde Pedal Fatigue and have recently had my interest piqued by the HXFX - especially in the latest updates including things like the "capo" for instant tuning changes. "Oh, that song is in Eb? *click* Done."

Anyways, I just kinda want to know a couple specifics about setting up the stompbox mode, before I can even decide whether I wanna try this machine out or not.

1. Like my QuadraPOG and Octron2 - can I route the dry signal through one footswitch for a Down octave and another footswitch for an Up octave at once? Both in parallel with each other, and having the dry kept at unity.

2. Can you turn off the always-flashing of the Tap light?

3. Can you add an effect as an always-on that doesn't take up a footswitch? (like an EQ or a Comp or something)

4. If you have an expression pedal on the Speed of a modulation, say, do you have to "reset" the position for the effect to pick up the right speed change when you turn it on/off? E.G. if you pull your board out of a case/bag and the exp pedal is pushed down flat, would the effect turn on at full speed or would it turn on at whatever speed you left it at?

Thanks
1. Yes, I have some patches with one switch for down (bass octave), one for normal (bass octave) and another for up (double pitch: 1 oct and 2 oct up). All of them in parallel.

I’m having a huge issue with my hxfx. I’ll be playing for about an hour and out of no where the unit will turn off and keep flashing for awhile till it turns back on. From there it’ll keep doing it till I turn it off for a few hours. This has never happened before on the unit since I started using midi. I power my unit with a strymon power supply and never have issues using the hx stomp this way does anyone know what’s wrong with my unit or do I just have a lemon?

My HX Effects would behave like that on startup when I tried to power it with my Strymon power supply (with a current doubler). Sounds like you may have a power issue.

Try powering the HXFX with the stock power supply and see if the situation improves.

I moved on to the Truetone CS6 to power my board, and haven't had a single issue since.

thank you for that. I guess the strymon can’t handle the hxfx like the stomp can.
Question about the cs6 do you think I could run the hxfx plus a darkglass Adam 500ma with that power supply?

Mine is about to arrive according to the tracking, so I have a couple more sound questions:
- Anything in there that can do a Bassballs? do you think they might add one later if not?
- Synthiest fuzz model?
- Velcroiest fuzz model?
(Asking about fuzzes specifically since I use the drive/OD on my amp as it is; my favorite fuzzes are the bassmaster and the gamechanger plasma)
- For inexpensive expression, how do you guys like the Moog EP3 vs the MAudio one?

It’s been a while, but I remember the Industrial Fuzz and the Xenomorph Fuzz as being pretty spastic. Swedish Chainsaw is charming. Legacy Sub Oct Fuzz is always a winner. You’ll find something.
For expression pedal, anything with a TS Jack and a 10k ohm pot should function well. I use the Line 6 branded plastic Roland tire tread pedal. Line 6 EX-1 Effect Expression Pedal

When using HX Effects with a traditional bass amp & cabinet, is there any (non cabsim) use for IRs? Thought I read something on L6 forums about IRs not being limited to just cabsims, but never saw any examples - particularly for bass.

I can confirm the Strymon struggles to power the HXFX and the HX Stomp - in particular NEVER try updating the firmware with this power supply. The Strymon can't seem to deliver the mA demand during this procedure.
In contrast, the CS6 and Cioks DC7 have had no problem for me in this regard.

TO power both one of the HX units and the ADAM, I would definitely favour the Cioks DC7.

I would use a cab sim if I didn’t like the cab I was using like say a going to a gig that has a back line. An ir is a eq i

Thanks for that I actually got the guy from sweet foot effects to make me a power supply for this. He told me it’ll work with the hx effects without a problem and also works well with the Adam. So far I haven’t had a issue with it. Fingers crossed nothing happens. I recorded for 4 hours yesterday without any issues.
