Hey!
Some of us have the HxFx for a time yet
Which one(s) is your favourite effect? Setting?
How do you set your rig? In front of amp input, 4cm, loop fx?

Me, I am not gigging very much with it in electric. Most of my gigs with electric bass are with a blues band and they use to look at me like "what is that!!?!?!" when I bring my Korg Pitchblack...
But it is a very good tool for doublebass: noise gate, compress, HPF, graphic eq...

Is a good tool for teaching with only one amp.

I like most the 70's chorus, it has some grit that gives definition to your bass. And I use it in the Fx loop of my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2 12T combo.

My favourite effect so far in my Helix is likely the one that I've found myself using in my straight bass tone, fake guitar tone, synth tone patches has to be the Teemah..That effect somehow just adds some real juice to everything I've thrown at it so far so yup that one is my fav so far. I run my Helix in stereo to a mixer then to 2 powered full range monitors. Works great for what I need it for but although the sound is phenomenal with tonnes of headroom you dont get the pushing air/rumble effect which is why I'm saving for a powered sub to add to the mix. Although I have the LT version the HX when I had it is amazing. I would have kept it but I ran out of blocks too quick for my setup and wanted the guitar and amp Sims too. Not to sound like a broken record but again I can't wait till better pitch shifting effects are available..

I am having a hard time with the snapshots... I can't seem to wrap my head around creating/saving them..

Like you and @gregmon79 I'm in the same boat. Just need to sit down and physically try.

To clarify further:

- You load a patch. In this patch, you have a dist, flanger, delay and comp blocks set up
- Each of your effects is configured in various states of on, off, drive, compression, delay etc.
- Switch to Snapshot mode. Now, with the push of a switch you can change, say, the amount of distortion in your dist pedal, turn your flanger off, your delay on and adjust compression.

From a usability perspective - Snapshot mode is useful for a verse tone, adding distortion or boost for a chorus, then maybe turning on some other effects (flanger etc.) for special parts. Using snapshots vs presets means you don't cop the "gap" you hear when you change patches while playing.

Seems simple enough I should give it a go. Thanks for the simple term of setting it up!

I’m experimenting with using parallel processing mainly for distortion tones. So if I’m using a crossover and sending the highs to the distortion and keeping the lows clean is there a way to sum the signals back together and have my full signal running to other effects in the chain? Like I’d want to have a crossover distortion and then full signal chorus, phaser etc. but the manual makes it sound like things don’t get summer until the end.

I think you can move the mixing block through signal flow view. I haven’t experimented with that because I kept the lows out of my effects to keep that bottom from getting muddy.

Yes, in signal flow view, you can select the split and mix point dialing the big knob, and then Move Block.

It looks like some cool possibilities.

Using an expression pedal to cop the sweep of a Tychobrahae pedalflanger?

One of my favorite features of the M series was the ability to map expression to any parameter.

I wonder if Hx Fx mimics all the features of the Liquaflange?

I am so curious about the dirt. A curiosity that can only be quenched with hands on experience. If the dirt is more than just “usable”, if it lifts me up, inspires and instigates, I may have to rewrite my moral code.

I would love nothing more than to show up to a gig with just an Hx Fx. I’ve had this dream before, but it has never come to fruition. I’m getting ahead of myself.

Just modeled a bassmaster. It’s so cool! Used the octave fuzz and a noise gate. I modeled off of my actual bassmaster. Got it pretty damn close. I may add a slight high mid EQ bump. But overall it’s pretty aweome. And mean. Yus!

Octave fuzz:
Drive 60%
Bass 60%
Mid 70%
Treble 65%
Output to taste/room

Noise gate:
I pretty much left it at the settings it was on when I added it.
Tresh 25.5 db
Decay 500ms
Level 0.0 dB

This thing rules.

Then you can even try it in a parallel path and mix it in with the crossover or A/B. That could even give you more bassmaster flavor.

Edit: I also added some simple EQ to add a tad more high mids. It’s even better now.

Just ordered my HX Effects through Sam Ash! I used a Helix LT for about 6 months, and liked it a lot, but ended up selling it due to a) not really needing any of the amp sim stuff and b) the overall size of the unit was a little unwieldy for some of the stages we've played.
That said, my primary focus for this unit is through my guitar rig, but it might double as my primary bass effects if I'm willing to give up my ISP Beta Bass.

I keep programming in guitar chains, and then going, "hey, i wonder what my bass would sound like through this chain", and most of the time, with a very minor tweak, i end up liking it a lot! ha.

IMO, they are awesome. I wasn't overly impressed with them at first. But once I started messing with them and realty trying them, I realized, the drives and other dirt models in the HX are VERY good. I've stated it before, there are a few that sound a little thin (as in, the low end response isn't the greatest) but then I can just put it in a parallel path and boom, low end is there. It's friggen awesome.

I'll second the sentiment. The OD in the HX is phenomenal. My problem is picking which one I use because I like so many of them. For light grit, the Darkglass emulation is great, as is the timmy and klon and a few others. Once you start stacking though, the options are endless and only limited by your creativity. Btw, the timmy into the darkglass will rip faces off. It's awesome.
