Line 6 M9 & M13 Club

New owner here(No Number, thanks)

Loving this thing, but it's going to get me into a lot of trouble. It's going to need and expression pedal. If I do that, then I might as well get two. And a master volume pedal. Then I'll need a board to haul it all around. And cables to wire everything up. And a Stereo head to take advantage of the stereo options. And more cabs. An an M13 for parallel processing and the extra looper.

Maybe something like this? :D

So Yesterday at a session I was really able to use some cool FX from the M9 with my bass. I had amaing results using the shimmer set at a really low, subtle mix. It was barely audible in the mix unless I hit a harmonic, and then it blossomed. It really filled in alot of space, as there was only a drummer, piano, and me on the bass. Also I used the facial fuzz and the overdrive for some dirt, I was not thrilled with these, and the tube comp.
QUESTION: which compressor have you guys found the most ideal for bass?
WHich distortion or fuzz have you found best?
Any good advice on which FX work in a very musical way as far as filters and mod?

Also I used the dig delay with mod set at dotted eighth with high feedback and stomped it on occasionally for a little spice :D

Here's a clip I made with the filter. It is really disorganized, but so am I.

What filter did you use to get that "wet" sound around 2:15. I have really been on the fence about one of these, a deep impact, or a markbass supersynth. But I really liked the FM4 when I had it, and am looking for the "Down with Disease" type sound (I know it is a deep impact patch".
Can you edit the patches on the computer on these?

Tron Down, LP, Freq in the lower half of spectrum, Q full, mix full, range low.

You can edit them with the computer, I can't because I don't have the proper midi to usb adapter.

Cool stuff cheapbasslovin, any input on the most musical, go to filters on these things?

For most of my needs it is just the Tron Up. I usually use it in bandpass with a blend. The vocal filter is very subtle, too much so for my tastes.

The triggered filter's fatal flaw is that it has too long of a sweep. It has a frequency parameter and an up/down parameter, but would be much nicer with a start freq and stop freq in place of those parameters. It is almost really nice, but I find that the sweep either starts too high or ends too high. If this were changed, I would find a way to use this effect much more than I do now.

I've said this before, but to me it bears repeating; the key to getting the best sounds out of the input sensitive effects is to find its ideal input volume. All my basses sound best with their volumes turned down. My Dragonfire equipped SX jazz sounds best with both pu at around 2. My Peavey sounds best around 5 and my Cort sounds best around 7. When you dial down the volume, the filters respond better, the compressors actually release, the distortions don't flatten out the input as much, the triggered filter, attack delayed synths and slow volume echo all trigger the way they are supposed to. I only need my English Muff'n to un-suck the distortions and everything becomes pretty good.

I personally don't think the distortions flat out suck. They are all dynamic dependent and each has its own sound, but they can sound a little flat and muddy. I totally get why people would want to dial out the lows and use a blender to get a better distortion sound.

Great response. The part about the distortions was a little over my head, could you share a few, or even one and the settings you think are best. I used the "overdrve" and "facial fuzz" and they both kind of sucked with the bass yesterday, I could not find the sweet spot on either?

The truth is:
A) I'm not much of a dirt junkie, so my tastes may not be as discerning as some.

B) I run a EHX English Muff'n as a preamp (post M13) and that thing has made every distortion I've ever owned sound about 10 times better than it did by itself. I've tried to convince myself to sell it about 10 times for something more convenient but I can't do it.

I like the Facial Fuzz and the Overdrive, (I really like the Overdrive into the Facial Fuzz), but it definitely loses some color without the Muff'n. There's no real magic to finding the right settings. If you pick up an LS-2 or some other blender you can really dial in a nice blended distortion by cutting the lows on the effect and blending in your clean signal.

One other thing to try is running your distortions with the Tube Comp. That helps me out sometimes. Others have had luck combining the dirts with EQ.

guys i got a qns. i am on a quest to save some real estate on my board and was thinking of getting something like the .

its rated at 800ma, will it be enuff to power the m9?

I think rich said that the m9 could be powered by a pedal power AC. There are outputs for as much as 1200mA on that. I think you're pushing it if you go too far below that.

I found out about the Particle Verb and Attack synth by coincidence today during rehearsal... completely unusable sounds (in a real song in a real band) but soooooooooo much fun :D

The guitar player came over and asked why don't they make these effects for guitar.. :eyebrow:

Herwig

LOL. I never blinked at the attack synth, but the particle verb can be very useful used tastefully, usually very subtly.

Rich specifically said Voodoo Lab b/c it has an auxilary AC outlet - which is the only one I've seen in a pedal power brick style situation.

M9 runs 9VAC 2000 mA minimum.

LIKE THIS

This is why:

I've looked around for other pedal power bricks with this and have found none.

+1
I have Cream Pie in effects loop and most of my M13 drives are before it (pre CP). CP is always on and it really makes the difference with M13 drives. I have also found that Tube Comp is really good for pushing Cream Pie to overdrive.:D
