Little Amps . . . different thinking

How did you rack the GK? The complaint was about not being able to rack micro amps.

Most of the newer micro heads on top of a good small cab like Bag End (my personal preference for that type of finesse gig), Markbass, GB, EA, Schroeder, etc. will work fine and can usually coast through that type of gig. Better yet two small cabs. The results can be astonishing.

Try them out for yourself, that's the easiest way to see what grabs you. A tip: try getting your tone initially without a lot of tweaks, just bring the gain up and try the amp flat first. "Automatic" tweaks give more people the wrong impression about unfamiliar amps than anything else I've seen.

Funny you mention this. Back in the mid eighties I used a Fender 400PS with a bassman 410 cab, and Club managers would comment that we need to "turn it down tonight" while I was loading in...lol

i put my GK in a laptop bag for padding and stick it in my backpack with cables. i absolutely love NOT having a rack or lugging the SVT. been thinking about adding another micro cuz it would fit into the same backpack, no prob. i love the fridge cab though. i think it's the easiest cab ever to wheel around and drag into the back of the van. i like what i'm hearing about the Orange Tiny Terror. GK just beats all in price.

small and modular is the way to go. biggest racks i ever use now are 2 space skb for when i bring a poweramp, a 20# suitcase.

Even if you decide to go preamp and poweramp two of the 2 space racks is a huge improvement over a big rack. Lots of the micro heads are pretty impressive these days as well.

as far as cabs you have to find out what you like but i recomend smaller cabs stacked vertically. bring as many as you need for the gig. I have 4 bag end cabs and i can put them in any car, yet they are as loud as any 8x10 (try putting a fridge in a dodge neon or a miata) :D

Hey There...I own a Miata...you do NOT put FOUR Bag End cabs of AnY size i that car !!!
on the other hand I do have a Carvin BX 500 and I love that I can bring 1 1X12.
or 2 2X12's .or ..3 1 X 12's or the 4 X10 + 2 1 X 12's or a 1 X 15 + a 4 X 8 or the 4X12 + whatever else I want...you get the Idea

the availability to go to 2 OHMS is the key to (spkr cab) freedom.
and yes I am one of the VERY cranky first customers of this head but the 3rd....yes the third one has been perfect for many months...close to a year and it kills

realy? i thought you could stuff a couple of 1x10 BE cabs in the trunk or in the front seat. I chose Miata as one of the examples as I recall Brad J schleping his BE 15 and Nahas 12 in his....:p

The neon takes 3 cabs in the back seat and one in the front (2 1x15 and 2 1x12), bass sits on top of the cabs in back, head goes behind my seat, poweramp behind passenger seat, bag with cords and lunch in the trunk or the floor of the passenger side. :D

It was said that the non-racked micro amps, not the racks, didn't look pro.

Two with a couple of basses in the trunk... four is probably pushing it. You could probably do it minus the basses but there's a flaw in that strategy somewhere.
;)

BTW did a big outdoor gig Saturday evening. The S15X-D/S10X-D stack driven by the Markbass Little Mark II sounded ridoofusly nice. Getting that big and raw a sound with the master around 9 o'clock (pre around 11) just doesn't seem possible. Yet there I was.

I'm using a Walter Woods Super High Power amp or a TC Electronics RH 450 with one or two EA NL210 cabs. With one cab you can play any small to medium venue and I've used two to do outdoor concerts and had all the volume I needed. The Walter is 7 pounds, the TC 10 pounds and the cabs are light enough to lift with one arm. Both amps have great power and tone and the cabs are loud but with great tonal range.

Well, and upon which statuesque, long legged blonde it (rack) is attached to, Ooh, too easy...That's what she said.

I felt silly racking my F1, I used to just slide it into my Lakland gigbag. So I got a second one. Now they're racked together in a 3 space, shallow Gator rack w/rack tuner. Not so silly and its's my 1000 watt, light weight solution. And unracked, I have a Neopak and a LMII but I have rackears for both, may never rack em they're nice and comfy in gigbags for now.

Finally, B1500 in a 3 space, rolling SKB rack, but ya gotta rack that heavy basstid, roight? Oh and all this into one, 410, 2x212's, 2x210's. We're in a happy place as bassplayers fellas, don't question it, just enjoy it.

actually 80% of my gigs in Vegas are amp-less
a lot of places insist on it,
IMO the 'pro look' is ME, not my rig

I get people looking at my amp all the time in awe
they ask if it's a DI or they think it's a toy until they hear it
