Looking for a big fat Envelope Filter pedal

I recently got a Wonderlove. With its many knobs and switches to tweak it is not a plug & play pedal, however there are great sounds to be squeezed out of the box.
I don't think you could justify the price difference with the Aguilar (which I tried too long ago to make a valid comparison) based solely on sound quality. It all depends whether you prefer a pretty much dialed in tone or experimenting to find your own.
Edit : The 3leaf's relay switch is nice too - and would cost you ~20$ and some soldering to upgrade the Aguilar with.

I do enjoy tweaking...pedals that is. I guess what I'm wondering is, can the Wonderlove or Fatman produce a deep smooth wah tone that is $100 superior to the Filter Twin?

Also, zero interest in any pedal that takes anything besides 9v.

Oh, filters... how they make me sad... I love them so, yet I remain so fickle that I bounce from one to another, never satisfied, the grass is always greener elsewhere. To some I say "good riddance!"; to others, "how I miss you so!.."

I WILL own another 3Leaf Proton...version 2 with decay knob...

Our next new pedal is a Bass Filter which incorporates much of what we have learned by following all of your conversations on this forum over the last few years! :hyper:

I find them more easily controllable than just about any other pedal I have tried, and they retain volume and bottom end.
They just sound good no matter what you do.

I have a Proton too, which sounds great... But it's very sensitive. Set it right for fingerstyle, and slap will lose some bottom end. Combine it with other pedals, and you have to ensure you tweak the levels just right so that it does not become too deep or too bright. It's just very sensitive. Too much even.
The Source Audio ones respond in a friendlier manner and you don't need to tweak and retweak to ensure it works well with other pedals.

I use the proton when space is an issue and just need one pedal, but the SA are on my pedalboards and are my favourite ones.

SB2 BEF is down to the final items (panel graphics, manuals, etc.). We have fattened up some of the filters to cover some key sounds which are popular here. We have also added in 8 flavors of distortion. It does lots of stuff.

I prefer the Wonderlove over the BEF Pro. A million times. I say give Spencer a boatload of money and have him make you a Carrier-shipload of money. :hiding: Please soundblox people dont attack me its just my opinion. Since you all read the forums and stuff I was just saying. I will most likely buy the SB2 BEF for testing purposes.

as far as envelopes go, own an EH Q-tron Enigma, an MXR M82 bass envelope, a custom built and modified seamoon funk machine, a BJFE Snow White Auto Wah and just built a highly modified Mutron V. IMO, they are all great sounding envelopes for bass, but are all completely different, since some are more 'synthy' sounding than others. the SWAW sounds like a true auto-wah and is a great pedal.

my most recent build, the modded Mutron V is probably the easiest one to dial in whatever I want it to sound like.

Well, I ordered the Filter Twin yesterday off of Amazon, should get it Wednesday. I'll play with it this week, bring it out to my gig Saturday night, and if I don't like it I'll return it and get a Wonderlove. Thanks for all the help and recommendations!

John_k, that Mutron V looks awesome!

I will add a warning about the Aguilar pedals. I was trying some out at a very nice music store, and the Spector Euro I was using was overloading all of the Aggie pedals, including the FilterTwin. The bass was definitely set up with a very hot output - maybe the strings were real close to the pups? - but if you have a high-output bass you may want to try before you buy an Aggie pedal.

I wish I had my bass at that store, but I was traveling so I didn't. I will try them again with my basses, which are not that hot even though they are active, when I can find a store nearby that stocks them.

Spencer strikes us as a very decent hardworking engineer who deserves to have lots of fans! Some small builders are only cloning simple old stuff and not innovating. Spencer is doing hard stuff. You will note that the GR was one of the key pedals we listened to when we did some of the sounds on the BEF. We do not know his other pedals, but the GR is worthy of the highest praise.

The only things we don't like are when pedal companies do not clearly identify themselves when they post and say bad things about their competitors :scowl: or when someone says something bad about something that they have not actually tried themselves. :hmm:

You are nice to worry about us, but this forum must ultimately be about honest and frank reactions and experiences. :)

My name is Jorge I live in South Texas I have owned your "pro" BEF and in my honest opinion I perfer 1,000,000 times a Wonderlove. Im just one person but Im sure many love and adore your products, I dont. Its ok such is life. Im not a company im just a guy that plays bass and likes to try out filters. :)

I owned the reg BEF with the wireless HH; found that I was only using one setting on it which couldn't justify the footprint. Then the H3 appeared, which was more what I was looking for at the time.

I currently have three analog filters plus what's in the Zoom B3 and I'm still not entirely happy. I may have a psychosis.

The only reason I'm moving on from my SA Pro-version BEF is to get the new SB2 BEF as soon as it's released! I absolutely cannot wait.
