Looking for a big fat Envelope Filter pedal

This is the reason I haven't bought one. I have zero doubt about the overall quality, but the envelope sweep seems to be either closed or OPEN!!! The transition doesn't seem to be very smooth from what I've heard in demos, and I'm not interested in the "sub" thing where it's set so that the filter doesn't sweep at all. As I understand it, the DOD FX25 already does that quite well.

filterfunk: whoa! so the DOD fx25 can actually nail that IE xero deluxe really deep sweep?

i also noticed that the frequency range of the IE xero deluxe is so wide that only a few are useable on bass ... at least compared to an MXR envelope filter where every range of the "Q" has an effect.

to add to that, i owned a 3leaf audio GR1, and it did not sweep at all! i had to put fuzz boxes in front of it to actually know it's on.

MXR can be thick unless you hit it hard and then the little chirps are high pitched, thin and get buried in the mix. I found the Aguilar Filter Twin to have the thick "bwaps" that were missing from the MXR. Ideally, I would probably have both on my board because they both can do their own things. I want to try the Pigtronix Bass Phaser next, that thing sounds awesome.

Funny thing...I recently had all three on my board! The Filter Twin is the only one that stayed. The MXR, like you said, sounds very thin and pingy and gets lost in the mix. I really liked the Pigtronix phaser, but didn't really use it enough to justify having a dedicated 18v setup on my board just for that one pedal. Otherwise I would have kept it, as it's different from both the MXR and the Filter Twin.

here's a section in our rehearsal where i used an MXR M82 (recorded with a zoom Q3) ... it can get really harsh if you attack the strings hard, but it can do smooth and fat if you hit it just right

i am also annoyed with filter demos, that they are always playing 16 note funk stuff or slap.

+10000, with all demos in general, all they ever do is a bunch of slap stuff. Slap is cool but it isn't everything!

The MXR isn't the only envelope that I have had get buried in the mix. Q Trons have never worked well for me. If it was soloed, it would be great. When Bootsy plays, he is basically soloed so all of those envelopes sound great with him. To get in the mix of a full band you have to have it thick and 'somewhat' dry. I'm a Filter Twin man all the way. Aguilar just makes amazing stuff in general.
