Lost in translation (US to UK)

Do we Southerners really have that thick an accent? I always thought it was just an exaggeration, like the thick New York accents, which, when I went to New York, never heard any of. But is it really that noticeable?

Oh yeah, I always thought I didn't have that Texas accent. I have alot of family up in the Portland, Or. area and my accent really shows when I go to visit.

I've prided myself in thinking that I don't sound southern...:crying:

I'd also recommend The Day Today/Brass Eye if you like spoof news shows (theses were done in the 90's) and JAM if you like ultra ultra surreal comedy sketches (all done by chris morris, who also cameos in the IT crowd)

One of the funniest UK shows I've ever seen was an older one: Father Ted, about 3 Irish Priests who share a house.

Father Dougal: I've never met a celebrity before.
Father Ted: You met the Pope.
Dougal: Did I?
Father Ted: Yes, do you not remember that time we were in
Rome?
Dougal: That was the Pope? That old fella living in
the art gallery?

:^D !!

My god I've pulled some abdominals over those guys! Here in Canada the CBC ran that for a few months, just long enough for me to get hooked, before dropping it. :^/

how could i forget? i just watched it last night. its still re run over here. one of the most successful sitcoms, starring irish actors, set in ireland, and made in the UK! it ran for 3 seasons and ended when the lead actor died 24hrs after filming the final episode.

"would you believe my own dog did that to me, dont you think it looks like a face???"

Lucky you, I wish they're re-run it here!

Not sure I know what the quote refers to, unless the dog peed on his leg?? :^>
