Don seemed really pumped on his 6x10 design. He mentioned that there are a handful of designs that have just seemed to really hit on all cylinders, and the 6x10 was one of them. I have yet to hear one, myself.

I hot off the phone with Bob earlier and he said that the 215 was sold. But another can be made just like it. I'm a thinking of selling the Avatar cabs and getting something in Neo. Maybe a 215 or 610 or a 215 and a 610...???? Whadaya guys think would be good for playing original hard rock metal with a blues edge...I've got a Bmax SS and a QSC 2450????????

Buy whichever one he makes first, and then buy the second one later! :D

Heck, as big and burly as you are, and as light as Don's cabs are, you can probably lug them both in in one trip!

I'll be playing Friday and Saturday night. (band name is WHO CARES?) I'll be easy to recognize. I'll be the one holding the bass ;) Tim's band (421) gigs around Tiffin/Findlay/Fostoria regularly also. I used to gig at Rainbow in Fremont with an old band pretty regularly, but that band ceased to exist, and although they paid OK, I sure don't miss playing THERE!

Tom, How would you compare the 6x10 and the 2x15? I played through the 6x10 for awhile, but the 2x15 was in the back room. The salesmen said it was sold and waiting to be picked up. He wouldn't allow me to really see what it good do. He just hooked up a little Hartke head and said "play softly".

I never got to play the 6x10, but the 2x15 had huge low end. It definitely is more of the "wall of thick sound" than it is "super punchy", so I am guessing that the 6x10 might be more punchy, but the 2x15 might be more "phat" and full. Just conjecture, though...

Hah! I can still picture you, bass in hand, literally spinning in a slow circle looking at all the options with a look of mixed joy and trepidation on your face! :confused: :D

Meanwhile, I was tossing cabs left and right, and doing my best to rip through every cab in the store! :bassist:

LOL, I can relate. I had to remind my self I had enough time to play every bass in the store. That trip actually convinced me I needed the GK1001RB II which I ended up dealing with Bob on (and I was NOT a GK fan prior to that)

Oh, my bad. Gosh, I think either could get the job done. I probably preferred the NV610 for its tighter response, but the LDS 2x15 certainly delivers in the big, phat bottom department.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but we're usually freakishly loud onstage. We purposely tried to cut some of the volume this past weekend, and I had a hard time "feeling" the bass with my rig. Wouldn't a 2x15 be "felt" more at the same volume than a 6x10? I would think smaller speakers would need to be pushed harder for a deeper sound. Or am I just way off track here!

I was waiting for someone else more inclined to discuss the mathematical ramifications of cone surface area, and the impact of the length of travel (excursion), but it doesn't look like anyone else is going to bite. ;)

My thoughts are that a 6x10 and a 2x15 are going to be in the same general ballpark in the "air-moving" category. You have already said "at the same volume", so this apparently is not a factor in this question. I would think, then, it comes down to stage coupling (and the cab with the largest footprint probably wins this contest - as long as it is not on casters) and physical air movement (the "pant-flapping" effect). The speaker array alone probably won't effect this part of the equation (again, with a 2x15 and a 6x10 being roughly equivalent), but if you are talking a ported cab (like Don's 2x15) versus a sealed cab (like the NV610), the ported cab is going to move gobs more air.

So much for the physical ability to "feel" the sound coming out of your cab. You also need to consider the subjective feel of the cab, which will certainly be affected by how it sounds to your ear/brain. Personal preference will vary a good bit, here, I am sure. But, you may want to consider whether you are desireous of a dive-bomb explosion of low end (in which case, I would steer you towards the LDS 2x15) or if you want a sharper, more articulate jack-hammer approach (in which case, I would think the NV610 would have the advantage).

Best advice is to bring your bass and your amp and try them both. Be sure to stand about as far away from the cab as you would on stage.
