Nice! I really like that design. I believe those are the ceramic 'long throw' 8" speakers down low, and more 'full range' neo 8's in a separate tuned box (I think sealed) up top with tweeter. Is that correct? If so, I've tried a version or two of that design and it's just killer.

Don and I have been talking about a 'super 115' for me (i.e., a very lightweight, small, rear ported 115 with a high quality 115 coax like one of the Bayma models, similar to the 112 coax he made for me a while back that TBer Vision has now).
...is there an advantage to this over using all more "full range" 8s?...

More mid punch, and better near field monitoring with the more mid focused slanted up 8's in that sealed box. It's a bit like the logic of the old Cerwin Vega 18 folded horns. They put an 8" front mounted driver in some of those models so you could hear what the heck you are playing.

The ceramic 8" that Don spec'd out with Eminence are really deep and full sounding, so the combination seems to work quite well. However, I've only tried them in the shop, so Don would be the one to tell you about the upsides and downsides to that particular design.

It's either a 3-way system or quasi-3-way (2.5?) depending on the x-overs he uses.

There may be some overlap of the 8" drivers (depends on how the x-over is set up).

Other similar systems EA CX-310 (2 10" woofers + a coax fullrange 10") and Bergantino HT322 (12" woofer + 2x10" drivers + HF driver).

The cab was designed as a true three-way system. The bottom 6 drivers, then the top two and then the tweeter. Yes those are the long throw 8's on the bottom. When Don and I started talking about this cab, I told him that I wanted punchy & deep so that's how he arrived at this configuration.

It IS heavy!!! The shipping box was labeled as 130LBS! I'll put it on a scale this weekend. I'm bummed that I won't have any time to try it out until tomorrow but I wanted to make sure it got here in one piece. It did get one small "battle scar" but its not bad.

The "more ass than a pack of mules" comment was from Don! Before he said that, he told that I would most liklely not need ANY other cabinets and would most likely sell anything else I was using after trying this beast out.

One thing that you can't see(because I forgot to post the pix of it) is the storage area behind the top two drivers. Its about half the depth of the cabinet. Good for cables or keeping things out of sight at a gig.

Yep, I’m in Texas but I did have to go to Detroit several years ago on business and saw some interesting parts of town where such a compartment could be handy. Don’t know when I’ll get up that way again KJung but if you get down this way, the first 5 shots are on me.

Back on topic, I can’t wait to get my cab from Don so I can quit lugging my heavy Eden around. Call me Pip cause I am full of great expectations.

You guys come to my house, and Shiner and Turkey are on me. It's kinda halfway, and I have a good range of LDS junk to sample too.

"LDS; it's not just for Detroiters no-mo."

True dat. I've got an LDS156 in the Q with 15" KLLF and a 6ND410. Should sound great for bass and be a killer drum monitor too.

Heh, I've got the same thing on order. Woot :P

I was gonna go with the Beyma mid, but same price for the 6nd410 so hell yes for me.
Would these be GB's fEarful designs? If so, I anxiously await a gig review....That's the way I'm leaning now. To have a real speaker cab builder make a great cab from a truly inspired design!

Ken, out of curiosity, what is the gross internal volume of this cab, and do you know the port dimensions?

Reason I'm asking, I have a small (2 cu. ft.), sealed, 15 cab that was actually the speaker section of an Acoustic combo from 1987. I want to rear port it and load with a neo, to use on small club dates, etc. This cab is built well, and will serve the purpose for what I intend, but every time I ask for a recommendation as to port size and depth, etc., I get the old " It's too small to sound good" answer. I've got a Dr Bass 1260 Slant (ceramic) which has truly amazed me for close to two years now, but I'm trying to go even lighter, and already have this cab anyway.

I don't expect to be playing stadiums with it, and know that the low end will be compromised by the size, but, doggone-it, I know there's an optimum way to port it for a good full range tone. After all, Bag End does it, MarkBass does it, and so on....

BTW, I'm thinking of using a Kappalite 3015 full range in it but am open to other options as long as it's neo. Which Beyma model are you looking at?

My 156 is my own design with the 6" in a sealed tube vertically aligned w/the 15. 25"t x 20.75"w x 18"d.

I'm thinking of ordering another one and stacking it upside down so the 6's are very close together yet away from my ear.
