My 156 is my own design with the 6" in a sealed tube vertically aligned w/the 15. 25"t x 20.75"w x 18"d.

I'm thinking of ordering another one and stacking it upside down so the 6's are very close together yet away from my ear.

B.C.....I like the dimensions as well as the stacking concept. Many years ago, I visited a high end audio store where they had a display consisting of four "stacked" Advent Loudspeakers, with the top pair "upside down". This really impressed me, as it sounded as good or better than rigs costing five times as much!!

Are you using a shelved port or round baffle ports? Don made the crossover?

BTW, didn't you have a Carvin LS 1503 before?

Would these be GB's fEarful designs? If so, I anxiously await a gig review....That's the way I'm leaning now. To have a real speaker cab builder make a great cab from a truly inspired design!

Mine is using the fearful dimensions, shelf ported, with alternate bracing (read: Don doesn't want to drill all those holes I guess). He's got a lot of experience with the 1/2" ply so I'm gonna let him do what he thinks is right there.

I'm having side slot ports down both sides the full length of the cab. I specified very strong bracing.

I didn't own a 1503 but just got thru waiting for a vertical 212 from Dr Bass that took 8+ months to arrive. Would love to have another 212V built out of Don's shop, but over the 8 month wait my tastes changed and wanted to try something else.

It should be the next level with very good off axis response.

Well I got a few minutes over the weekend to fire-up the 6-8+2-8 cab. Its really hard to tell in my house since I really can't turn the amp up much at all before the china cabinet starts ratteling.

It seems like a very even cab with no noticable dips or peaks in response, at least not at low volumes. All the drivers are working as well as the tweeter level control. I ran the amp flat and just used the preamp on the bass to tweak things.(DB-750 & Lakland Skyline 44-02). It was VERY responsive to changes in tone setting. A little went a long way. I would say that at a "flat" setting on this setup, this cab seems to make a bit less bass than my El-Whappo but I would expect that at a low volume. If you just nudged the bass knob on the bass, they were the same. I should also note that I have not broken-in this cabinet as has been often talked-about here. Friday night will be the true test as I'm taking it to a gig. Not sure which head to use but I'm leaning towards my DB-750. I'll post something after that gig.

I've recently had issues with my right knee, so I've been wanting to downsize my cabs to a more manageable size. I just paid a deposit for a 210 with 2u rackspace from Don. The rackspace will be in the back of the cab so the front of the amp faces up.

Eventually, I'll likely sell my 410 and get another smaller cab to complement the 210. Perhaps a 112 with an 8" or 6".

Just had lunch with Don today. He says 'hey' to everyone. He's not much of an internet guy. He said he's really enjoying being able to focus completely on building the cabs now that the retail shop is closed.

Please give my regards back to Don! Does he still work with Ralph?

I need to talk to Don about getting something reviewed in the mag.

I already mentioned that I paid my deposit for a 210 with 2u rackspace from Don. As for a second cab to complement the 210, do you guys have any suggestions? I play mostly fingerstyle Rock in a cover band, but I do also play a little Slap, Funk, R&B, etc. I was thinking maybe a 112 or 115 with one or two 8" or 6" speakers.

Of course, I will also ask for Don's opinion before I order a second cab, but I thought I'd bring this up for discussion. Thanks!

If you get a 115/6 you'll wind up just using that all the time I would bet ;) The 3015LF is a monster speaker capable of going super low. It's addictive.

I'd suggest another 2x10 identical to yours without the airhead of course.

I also don't know if you got your 2x10 vertically aligned but you definitely should do so.

The 115/6 sounds intriguing.

Ultimately, I'll see how my basses sound through the 210 before making any decisions. If I feel another 210 would be sufficient, I might take that route.

Well, my assumption was that the 210 would be horizontally aligned, but I did mention to Don that I might sometimes use the cab on its side. The rackspace will be built on the back of the cab so that the amp faces upward. Don will be calling in a couple weeks to go through the order again before building the cab.

Lol, tell me about it. I am gettin antsy. I think you will have yours before I get mine, because I'm having mine bedlinered.

From what Don said he was starting our cabs last week, so mine should be going for bedliner by the end of this week I'd guess, and crossovers should be getting started soonish.
