Can I join the club if I am GASSING for one of these custom cabs? I am going to get one, just don't know when!:D

Overall you LDS owners, do the extra midrange speakers give the cab overall more clarity in the upper mids and mids all together? I am mainly interested in a comparison to most 410's. In general, I feel many ported 410's have that massive tone vibe from having 4 of the same drivers work together in one enclosure. So what was the major tone difference going from 410's to a different sized driver setup? I know it will differ with everybody, but a few generalizations would help me out greatly as I am going to call Don very soon here and talk to him about a custom cab. I probably should just talk to Don, but might as well ask you guys!:bassist:

In my 2x12=2x6, and 2x8+5;
the reason I went with mid drivers (and *no* horn) is that they can accurately represent nearly all the high end content of a horn without sounding as harsh as horns sometimes can.

I've always taken issue with the way horns have dealt with tone that has any kind of overdrive content in it, and with the way the reproduce tube amp tone.
ymmv; etc.

My new LDS verticle 2x12" + 2x6.5" arrived Friday afternoon. Took 20 minutes just to unbox them!! (Don packs his boxes very well) Anyway, used the twelves that night with a LOUD blues band. Tons of Allman Bros. and Janis Joplin. Did I say LOUD? The single cab was awesome. No problem competing with a hard hitting drummer and two guitars cranked. The more they turned up, the louder I turned up. No break up on the low B and mountains of punch. The addition of the 2x6.5" mids brings playing twelves to a whloe new level. CLarity & definition galore. I can't say enough about Don and his designs. The cab is tuned perfectly, I can't wait to try the tens. Anyway, here's a couple of pix.

If anyone is considreing a new cabinet, I strongly suggest you call Don @ LDS. The guy knows his craft very well. I couldn't be happier. I'd be glad to share my experience on the whole build process with anyone. PM me and I'll give you my #.

Thanks guys. It weighs around 50 lbs. Don made it out of lightweight materials. I can easily carry it with one hand. The speakers are Eminence Delatlite ll 2512's and the mids are in their own enclosure inside the cab. Custom crossover as well to match the drivers. Impressive attention to detail. Those are Avatar sourced 12's and have a different spec than the stock Eminence speakers. Don made absolutely sure he had the right specs to tune the box properly. He nailed it for me.

That looks like the perfect 212 configuration. Sounds like it really delivers the goods. I called LDS and spoke with Don briefly. He said it was 20"W x 32"H x 16"D. With a weight in the low 50's that cab must be a breeze to move. If those are the Avatar sourced Eminence Deltalite ll 2512's with extended Xmax, is that rated at 600W for the pair? I was also curious how this arrangement would work with the new Eminence 3012LF.

5String,

Yep, light it is. I've already swung (?) it around in one hand to open a door in to a gig. EASY to carry. As far as the 3012's go, I have no doubt Don will have no trouble tuning the cab for them. And yes, it delivers the goods in spades, I played two gigs with it and got comments on my tone on both o them. Both with a band I played with before. They all noticed a difference for the better. Thank man, good luck.

Very nice, Frankie! Looks like a great single-cab solution that's easy to move.

Heh, I was thinking the very same thing! Except I'm aiming for a sealed cab, so I'll have to look into how that will change things.

Numbers coming up for:

Sliderbass .......18
Frankiebass59...19

I scan the thread as often as I can, but I'm not pushin' numbers on folks who don't ask for them, so sometimes I bumble up and miss.

Welcome to the club you guys, and keep spreading the word....and the word is...
LDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...wait...wait...that's not a word....

Nice! I really like that design. I believe those are the ceramic 'long throw' 8" speakers down low, and more 'full range' neo 8's in a separate tuned box (I think sealed) up top with tweeter. Is that correct? If so, I've tried a version or two of that design and it's just killer.

Don and I have been talking about a 'super 115' for me (i.e., a very lightweight, small, rear ported 115 with a high quality 115 coax like one of the Bayma models, similar to the 112 coax he made for me a while back that TBer Vision has now).
