Low Down Sound Cab Club started!

GB, if I find that I'm having to turn down my 6" with one 15"KLLF, should I just get a 115KLLF cab to add for the loud gigs?

That's what I did. Just switched from a -3dB pad to no pad when using both 3015LF.

At some point, depending on crossover frequency and type of tone you like, you might find that the 6ND410 is not enough. Might. Because that point is considerably further away than one might think...

First post to the club, glad to have found the thread!

I've been in contact with Don, also impressed at his communication. Very responsive!

Here's my situation, and I'd love to get some feedback from the club:

I've got an swr 4x10 (goliath II) that I love the sound of, actually, it's perfect for what I do in every respect except weight and transportability. (98lbs, & I drive a small hatchback). I'm hoping to split the 4x10"s to 2 cabinets.

Also, I do a fair amount of live sound work at a venue with horrible floor monitors, and occasional small PA-for-hire work, but no longer have PA mains.

The thought occurred that I might be able to kill 3 birds with 1 stone here, and have received a (very, very fair) quote for a pair of the following:

2x10's neo's
1x 6.5 non-neo mid
1 tweeter
L pads for each mid and tweet
rear of box tilt-back cut for floor monitor use.
diagonal speaker arrangement for the 10"s, putting the mid and tweeters into the unused corners.

If these work well for floor monitors, I'd probably later put pole mount flanges on the bottom for use as PA mains.

Thoughts? Mainly, I'm wondering if a vertical arrangement of the drivers would make more sense than the diagonal I've spec'd.

These cabinets would not be used with any other extension speakers, and would be used with 4-string instruments pretty much exclusively when used as bass cabinets.

TIA!

To my knowledge there are not any 10" speakers available that will do the work of a single 3015LF even paired. I'd recommend you do what you're talking about but put 3015Lfs in there instead of a pair of deltalite 10s or whatever. It'll be lighter, about the same size, and louder.

Looks more like someone hacked his server -- most likely he's on a shared host and some nozzle installed an unsecured PHP app, and blammo :) hack city.

It's possible someone got his specific password but I doubt it. I'd imagine everyone on his shared server got that treatment from the looks of it.

Hey, just a heads up, but apparently the site has been hacked...:scowl:

What are y'all talking about?

BTW...Ya just need one to blow away any 2x10s...

Thanks for the link...maybe...I dunno. I'm not generally a fan of 15s, though I haven't tried this specific one. For reference, I'm more interested in a focused, solid midrange than I am low frequency extension. I've prefered 12's to 15's over the years for this reason.

This is why I ask.

Any other input from the folks here?

Thanks!

The 3015LF needs to be paired with a midrange (6"-8").
Check out greenboy's megathread on the fEarful cabs. (A MUST read!!)

Also, Em recently introduced the killer 3012LF 12"....if you like twelves!

That's one hell of a thread. Looks like a nice update on the JBL cabaret concept.

Thanks for the input on the 3015 requiring pairing with a midrange driver. I'll likely stick with the original 2x10 configuration, but I do appreciate the input!

Any other input on driver arrangement?

Thanks.

Just from viewing? Please elaborate!!...What was it and how did you know?

I'm using Firefox on a Mac, it had a "warning bar" show up at the top of the Firefox window saying it the website needed a plugin to show properly. Firefox didn't recognize the plugin and I didn't install it, but it had a Real Audio sounding name. I should have taken a screen shot...

If anyone knows his phone number, he should get his host to take it down pronto. I've always gone to his site to get the number but now...

=wr=

Edit >> May not be anything. The hacker's code is terrible but he is trying to link in this: http://www.ozq8.com/song-9531.ram which may just be a song. Color me paranoid...

Something to keep in mind is that the midrange GB suggests is an 18 sound 6nd410 and is louder by far than most 10s through the midrange, being about as loud as a pair of very high quality 10s. It's also far lighter and dispersion is much superior as well (up to 2.5khz or so vs. the 1.5khz or so of a 10 -- closer to 800hz of a pair of 10s side by side).

The 115/6 with that particular configuration will be louder than any 2x10, from 40 to 8000hz or so -- whereas your typical 2x10 is going to run about 80hz to 1500hz, and then drop off steeply, then pick up again around 3500hz when the tweeter kicks in.

If you want a tight focused midrange sound, the 6nd410 will do a darn good job. Better than any 10 out there.

Probably great until the 2x10 farted out at a quarter the watts ;)

I was going to say a 210 is not needed, but I like your response much better rpsands.

I'd like to order a 2nd cab just like my 156 and turn it upside down so both 6's are right together.

So, you both like the 3015LF, correct? Which 6" speaker do you prefer in that cab? Is cost comparable to a 210? I've sent an e-mail to Don inquiring about the 15/6 config.

Now, I play mostly fingerstyle Rock with some Blues, Slap, Funk, and R&B thrown in. The Rock we play ranges from older Sabbath, Zeppelin, and Skynyrd to more modern music like Incubus, Finger Eleven, and Theory of a Deadman. I play both 4 and 5-string. My amp puts out 350 watts @ 4 ohms (and 500 watts @ 2 ohms). Do you feel the 15/6 would be a good choice for me? Any thoughts about a 12/6 using a 3012LF?
