Low Down Sound Cab Club started!

Mine was extremely well packed with a chamber at the top for the stacking corners that he left off the cab and rubber feet. Amazing packing job. Mine had styrofoam on all sides of the cab.

He uses Fed-ex which is cool because they deliver on Sat too. You can also track your package without a tracking #.

People get this wrong all the time cos they like the alliteration but it's "Small, Low, and Loud - Pick Two."

Weight usually goes along with size, but not always. Neo and the light plywood make what is a fairly good sized cab (not too much smaller than a lot of 4x10s) pretty light.
Ah, sorry about that.
Who does Don use to ship his cabs? Any problems reported? How does he pack them? Maybe some pics of packing, if possible? How much did he charge to ship your cab?
Mine was $30 shipping and $8 insurance.

It's been a big week for cab 'testing' for me. Don just brought this beauty over for a quick 'listening' and testing out prior to shipping. I'm not sure who it is going to. It sounds very good... very punchy, with lots of sizzle if you want it from that powerful tweeter.

Anyway, just putting up a picture as an example of how you can do a 410 and get the speakers up a touch closer to the ear, which some guys prefer. There are super duper 3" tilt back castors with a nice top handle, and six heavy duty rubber feet on the bottom. Nice execution. Neo 10's.. about 65 pounds.

That's my Puma500 sitting on top.

Don's got some great ideas.

To be fair, these offset designs are nothing new... Bag End has a similar 410, and Aguilar and Bergantino's 412 is a similar design. However, some are not familiar with how they look, and it is a pretty cool idea to get the tone and power of a 410 in a more 'back seat friendly' format that also sits up a touch higher. Nice box.

How did the tone compare to the single 14 full rand and the 15/6? As much bottom end?

Yes sir, I'm talking about the little things like the 3 rubber feet.... The "little" details that make an LDS cab a joy to use.

Totally different tone and vibe. I didn't really spend a ton of time with it, but it was, as you would expect, tighter, a bit less growly, a bit more modern. Don told me these were more mid voiced 10's (not sure what Eminence models). It sounded darn good, but almost at the other end of the universe from the growly warm 115 (Ryan's cab) and the much deeper, wider, purer, 'reference' type tone of the 15/6's I've had the pleasure of playing.

It sounded like a darn good 410:smug:

Ken,

If one is very used to an Eden XLT 4 10 cab, would you say this was close, (Don's cab you checked out this week) or what other models of LDS cabs have you experienced that wouldn't dissapoint someone who uses THAT cab as their reference?

Of course and XLT and then some isn't a bad thing (for me anyway) I have just been recently lamenting weight AND being able to hear on stage better, so this design had crossed my mind, along with the TC Electronics cabs, which certainly seem to be a pretty great idea. Comments needed and welcomed !

Having spent a lot of time with an XLT I can guarantee the fEarful-ish 15/6 that Don makes would replace one - and two would surpass it easily. You'd need to use some eq to make it happen (scoop some mids) but it'd be fine.

You'd have to talk to Don about that. I'm a BIG fan of the Eden 410XLT. It's the classic case of 'looking bad on paper and sounding simply amazing on the gig' IMO and IME.

While definitely not the same, the Bergantino AE410 is definitely in that 'tight, grindy, punchy' tone universe, and is about 62 pounds, and loud as the beezeebus. That's an option. The Genz Neox212 is also that sort of 'grindy tight punch' sort of voicing in a lightweight package.

I'm also sure Don could spec out a cab with similar low mid punch and aggressive upper mids that would make an XLT user happy!

I hate to be a pain in the but...can't help it.

I've been following all this stuff pretty close for a few months now. I appreciate Don's work and the fEarful design don't get me wrong...

People have built their own 15/6, Don has built a few and Ken gave us a nice review among others. There has been a discussion about which amps may drive this thing to it's full potential, possible a bridged amp at 8 ohms.

What I haven't heard from anyone so far is...I just got done A/Bing my new 15/6 to a UL410 / HS410 / 410XLT (insert 4x10 of choice) and this 15/6 is just burrying it.

So I am still sceptical of those that claim this design will replace a conventional 4x10 cabinet....:hiding:

so the 15/6 is or isn't louder than these 4x10s?

I can't comment at all on that directly. The only comparison I did was with an 8ohm 115/6 and my 4ohm AE410 with my F1. That wasn't a fair fight, and the AE410 was clearly 'louder' (although mostly in the mids and upper bass). However, that was massive apples to oranges, given the low power the F1 puts out at 8ohms).

My 'gut feel' is that if you could find an amp to put a good solid 500 watts or so into an 8ohm fEarful 15/6, it would pretty easily keep up with a 410 with the same power applied, although the tone would be quite different (obviously).

Peter; I don't see any of the 410s you say you're testing against listed in your profile...??

I sold my 15/6, but I do have on hand an AE410, UL410, Henry 8x8, LDS4x8, and LDS 2x12+2x6. I had no problems using the 15/6 as I would have used any of my bigger cabs; but, I was also feeding the 15/6 1200 watts.
