Check out the 112 version of your cab. It's really sweet sounding.

Regarding the one way 115 cab with the non LF, it handled the B string beautifully to my ear. However, as you probably heard from the clip I put up, the upper mids are very growly/grindy, which gives that cab a much 'rougher' edge to it than the 15/6 that you have.

IMO.

I've been on the road for the holiday, and leave again for a long giggin weekend on the road on Thursday. BUT... I will be in town the following week, and I assume Don will bring over something cool for me to pound on:bassist::hyper:

Single 15 with the 3015 will get the B across better than most cabs out there but not nearly like the 3015LF will.

I would go with a 12/6 instead though. About the same size/weight as the 3015 but giving up a little sensitivity for low end. Can get cheaper using an Alpha 6 for mid.

A properly sized cab with a 3015 NonLF and adequate power will have no problems reproducing the B string...

But... You can't beat a LF driver for bass reproduction...

my mesa diesel 3015 loaded boxes delivered the B string well enough for me, in an old school sounding way.
they were big, and heavy though. don could build lighter.

I think I'm going to just have to wait until Don finishes my 15/6 to shop for heads. I've got my B1500 but I'm going to downsize to a micro head and need to decide which one. This week I tried out the Puma 500 and 1000, the EA iAmp800 (no pro to try out) and the Markbass LM800 and SD800 (to get a feel for the SD1200). But not only isn't there a cab that can approximate the 15/6, but the two stores didn't have any cabs in common so I could A/B the EA and TecAmp but not the MB stuff.

I've brought my own bass to shops plenty of times, but I've never thought about bringing in my own bass and cab to test heads!

Right now I'm looking hard at the Puma1000 and SD1200.

I hear ya on that. I tried a Markbass head at GC and thought it sounded terrible with the cabs they had. I do think my 15/6 might work with the LM but I don’t think it’s got enough power to get it going real good. I’m interested in trying the LM 800 whenever they get around to actually selling them in stores.

For now, I’ll just keep my two rack rigs going and wait. I’d really like to downsize my side gig rig but whachagonna do?

I believe Don is bringing over a three way 12/6.5/tweeter box for me to check out tomorrow or Friday. I'll post up a clip if that happens. Not sure who it is being built for.

I'm excited to try this configuration, since I've been very impressed with the 15/6's and 12/6 that I've tried, but really do need that bit of upper treble sparkle that only a tweeter seems to provide for my tone.

Stay tuned if you are interested!

please note if it's a 4 or 8 ohm box for us?

after trying that 8 ohm 15/6 and having to hit it with 1000 watts or better for *me* to be happy, I"m not sure a 15/6/horn is in my future.

However, a 4 ohm 12/5/horn, or 1212/66/horn might interest me a lot.

I believe those Eminence drivers are only 8ohm, so these will all be 8ohm boxes. With the 112, you probably wouldn't want 4ohm anyway, since 300 watts or so from most SS amps at 8ohms would drive them to full output. However, it would be cool for Eminence to offer the 15 in 4ohm so the 15/6's would be a little friendlier to the micro heads!

I think that is mine if it's a 3012HO/6ND410/Tweeter with the Duratex finish. I just spoke with Don on Monday and was told he was just waiting on the crossover (1.2KHz lo/mid, 4.0KHz mid/hi) and should have it done later this week. It's an 8 ohm cab 24"h x 17"w x 15.75"d using the fEarful 12/6 design tuned to 52 Hz. If this is the one Don brings over I'll be interested in your thoughts.

Hrm, that seems weird to me, the box is a little big for a 3012HO :) The 3012LF makes a lot more sense I think. Definitely looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Should sound great anyway, heard awesome things bout the 3012HO.

I just couldn't get past the efficiency advantage. The 3012LF is a great driver and rules between 40-50 Hz but the 3012HO has a large efficiency advantage above 48Hz with equal wattage to each. So, for 300 watts and under the 3012HO seems like a choice worth trying. The Eminence website shows for
3012HO Recommended Enclosure:
Sealed 28-76 liters/1.0-2.7 cu.ft.
Vented 41-110 liters/1.5-3.9 cu.ft.

The large vented cabinet design has Vb of 3.6 cu-ft with an F3 at 51Hz and a 300 watt excursion limit. The 3012HO is very efficient and if it's solid down to about 50 Hz and reaches full excursion at about 300 watts it should be good with all those microheads which put out 300 watts into 8 ohms. The large vented design seemed to fit with the fEarful 12/6. The larger box should improve low frequency response at the expense of ultimate power handling. I was planning on using this as a full range stage monitor when needed or placing it sideways on top of my GB Uber212T (which has great low end) and driving the pair with a Shuttle 12.0 Max.

I'm sure it'll work fine and on he upside if you ever want to increase power handling and lows, dropping a new shelf and a 3012LF in there would be cheap :) The 3012HO sure is efficient, man. Heck of a driver.

I'm contemplating seeing if I can source a couple OEM coaxial 3012HOs for an old cabinet I have lying around (3.7cf internal) :)

Cool! Don brings by any cabs that are either a first build for him, or that he thinks came out particularly well. He's pretty excited about this one, but of course, hasn't heard it yet!

When Don brings these over, it's just a few feet from his truck to my family room, and we take a few pictures and then do a quick clip, and make sure the cab is working perfectly prior to shipping. So, it's more like a 'final bench test' than anything else.

Again, I'm not associated with the company. It's funny, Don feels I'm doing him a favor, and I'm like 'you're going to bring all these cool cabs over for me to try, and I don't even have to pay you anything!' So, it's a pretty nice arrangement, and a great excuse to do lunch ever couple of weeks.

I'll post up if and when he pops over. I know the cab wasn't quite finished yet, but he felt he would have it done by the end of the day.
