Having tons of fun with my 15/6/1 and 15 Sub...my office for Friday night:

I could not be happier with this rig; I'm never in need for volume, low end warmth or anything else tone-wise...That Alesis synth sounds sooo thick coming through those two 15's! On FB, one of my band mates said I'm terrible for putting it next to the sound crew's rig; looks and sounds so tiny in comparison to mine

Oh, and you can see by the color difference that I only covered the 15/6/1 with couple coats of poly...just haven't gotten around to coating the sub yet. I'm quite please with the shade I got; nice golden hues, no orange looking amp here!

I may find myself a candidate for an LDS cab a little later on this year.

Currently using a PF500 with a PF115LF for rehersal. I know, chump change for you guys in here. Looks like I'll be playing out again more frequently here soon, and I'd like a major upgrade in the cab dept. Finding the Ampeg lacking in low end, and a little clanky in the upper mids with no real treble. I've been a sealed type of guy for a long time and I think I'm ready to foray into ported narnia. Really liked an SWR 610 I played though recently. My end goals:

Loud. Heavy handed drummer, guitar player never has problems hearing himself. Not all that worried about weight, and would prefer one large box to a pair of small ones. If it's under 100 pounds or so I'm happy. Tilt back with a bar and rails suits me just fine. I'd like a lot more low end than I'm getting now, and more options on the high end. Needs to handle low C#/B at volume readily, and without too much mud. Mids have to be there. I know this may end up being a "pa" type of cab which intimidates me a little. Always had the sealed 810 sound to fall back on in most of my rigs. Based on light reading over the years, I think? I'm in the market for a 1515/66 with 3015s and faitals. Am I way off base? Can this be done for under a grand?

Maybe Don has some great deals on the drivers you need for this build, but a grand or less seems very optimistic for that kind of cab :/

Fair enough. I figured price was a bit of a pipe dream. I know if I did go something more along the lines of a basic 610 it might be doable.

I'm getting a 1212/6/1 with a crossover for 800, so I really doubt that it would come in under a grand considering the 3015LFs are more than the 3012LFs that I'm using, and you're looking to use 2 Faitals while mine only has the one. I can't imagine it costing a WHOLE LOT over a grand, definitely worth a phone call to Don. He's going on vacation either at the end of this week or next, so call soon!

I do many of my gigs with just a 15/6/1 and an MBF800.
We're not a hella loud band, but, we're not real quiet either.
A 15/15/66 would be capable of a lot.

That size cab with 800 or more watts behind it would handle anything short of playing at MSG I think

Realized I hadn't submitted my new LDS 15/6 with 3015LF and Faital 6" mid:

I'm absolutely in love with it, and am looking forward to getting a higher wattage head to make this really sing!

The tone is extremely deep yet clear, and perfect for my modulation-heavy pedalboard.

All depends on the drivers. But if you're talking 10s that can compete with a 1515/66 (& the only one that I know of that could even hope to is the 3010HO, & imho, actually, even 6 of them probably couldn't), ain't a snowballs chance in Hades a grand will work. It wouldn't even cover the drivers.

For the displacement & potential volume available from a 1515/66. its really a tremendous value.

Look for 2 used 15/6s (or 15/6/1s). But they're also going to be over $1K.

If you want top-notch stuff, you're gonna need to pony up. Simple as that, I'm afraid.

To add to iualum's post: It will be over $1K, but not much more than that (I won't get into specifics for obvious reasons) so it's definitely worth saving up the extra couple hundred...better to buy quality once than compromise and eventually buy 2 or more times.

If you like the sound of the PF500, trade up for a PF800 and get what has been suggested above. These cabs sound like whatever you put through it...it'll have better low and high end response than the PF115LF and tons more volume (and you can turn the mid and HF drivers down or off if you don't like too much up top).

Be warned, the fearful type cabs have no real character on their own and it may be a big dissapointment if you have been getting alot of character from your cabs but, just didnt realize how much. I find that some regular cabs sound louder because they emphasize more of the useable range. Yes Ive owned several of each type of cab.
