I've been stalking this thread all day ever since I got a call from Mr. Oatman about my first cab being done. I was hoping for some pics :D Guess it'll be here soon enough. Room in the club for 1 more, gentlemen?

Aren't you the lucky one? I am still waiting for the FYI from Don that he has started work on my order which was placed 9 weeks ago. Personally, I'd rather wait for Don to do the work than get one built by someone else who puts his logo on it. Three out of four of the basses I play were custom-built, and I had to wait for those too. It is just what happens when someone is very good at what they do and does not want to (gulp) farm the work out overseas like everything else these days.

True. It's now April...end of April really. I placed my order in December 2009. He's been busy to say the least :D
Truth be told though, I'm quite lucky it worked out that way (and he warned me it would) b/c I ended up wanting to pair these with a different head, so the specs changed.

It's an interesting dichotomy in that you have Don who won't take your $ if he thinks it'll be more than 8 weeks, and another builder who'll will take your $ knowing full well it's could take 9 - 18 months and tell you it'll be 6 weeks.

CFclef, "I've been stalking this thread all day ever since I got a call from Mr. Oatman about my first cab being done. I was hoping for some pics Guess it'll be here soon enough. Room in the club for 1 more, gentlemen?"

Yup, sure is, haven't got a request in quite a while (not even sure this is a request really, but what the heck, it's all in fun), seems the thread has gone pretty technical, which is wonderful too.

CFclef, you are LDS club member #23.

Congrats and hope you're as happy with yours as I am with mine!

Sweet. I'm the Jordan of this club...and the Mark Madsen of bass playing. I try hard, but... haha

EDIT: Thanks!

Don O. is honourable and his product exemplary IME (at least my 15/6:p); it'll be well-worth the wait, even if it's 12 weeks.

I've just put down my deposit for a pair of cabs from Don. :hyper: He's still estimating 8-9 weeks...I have no hopes of getting them that soon, but it's interesting that that's still the timeframe he's quoting. He must be planning on catching up soon...

If you're looking to get into an LDS product without the wait time, I have something in classifieds:

Also posted this in the big cabs thread. Don is not only an expert craftsman but a super friendly guy as well. I have enjoyed this one so much I have another on the way...

I talked to Don on the phone last week and he told me that he and his wife were in the process of buying a new house in Seattle. He'll no longer be based out of Detroit once he gets moved out to my fair city. I might have to takeover Ken's roll as unofficial cab tester for Don't stuff :p

I too am shopping for a house right now and can appreciate how much time that takes, let alone the added time of planning a move across the country. If anything that might lend an explanation to the extended time it's taking him on some of the cabs.

I will say with confidence that Don's work is exceptional and his support after the sale is fantastic. Ralf Patterson, the guy who builds his crossovers (he posted a few posts up) is also extremely helpful after the sale. I know it's hard waiting longer than expected for a cab, but if your experience mimics mine, it will be worth the wait.

So I got my new cab today. It looks amazing and sounds AMAZING. Deep, articulate, punchy...it's everything I wanted and more.

Trouble is, Fedex found a way to puncture through the box, styrofoam, double sided cardboard packaging, and through the tolex to leave a nice, index finger sized dent on the face of the cab. I contacted Mr. Oatman, who couldn't be nicer about it, and he and I will work something out through Fedex (return it to Mr. Oatman for another cab).

That being said, Mr. Oatman asked that I try the cab out anyway to see if it's something I like enough to replace. From the very first few notes I struck, I was astounded. No mud, buzz, honk. It was 110% what I could have hoped for. If anyone is on the fence about these 15/6.5s, get off of it!! First, because it's dangerous (harhar :scowl: ), and second, because these cabs are fantastic.

I asked Mr. Oatman to match the port size of the fEarful, which is usually not the case with the LDS design which utilizes circle ports. The answer was 3 slightly larger circle ports, one in each corner except for the upper left of the cab that housed the 6.5. Oh and the 6.5....what a driver!! It gets very, very bright. I'm glad I didn't get a tweeter.

Overall, I am disappointed by the ding and to have to wait even longer to have my cab, but I am thrilled that this is going to be the final product I receive. 10/10 in every aspect: fit + finish, sound, options, and of course customer service.

This entire post can be summed up in 6 letters:
LDS FTW.
