I tried calling and sent an email three days ago with no response. I managed to contact him in October, but through this whole process, not a word from him, which was/is making me skittish. (By comparision, I've been waiting 17 months now on a Torzal bass. The difference there is that the builder is very good about keeping me apprised of my order status and updates.)

FWIW, I've been waiting nine months for a cab from another custom builder. It's certainly longer than I expected and I wish the wait was shorter, but having had my share of stock cabs over the years it's worth the wait. But that's just me, we all have personal goals and needs.

Jx Bass,
Even when Don was in the midwest, it took a while to get a custom cabinet done. Personally, I found it worth the wait, but I'm pretty certain my LDS 2x8 Three Way took at least 3 months and possibly a little longer. When Don's in building mode he tends not to get back to you as fast, but he always returned my cell phone calls faster than email. Don also doesn't have a spray booth for that road finish he coats his cabinets with, or at least he didn't when he built mine. If you really going after a specific cab with custom specs Don's the man.

Hi Ric,

Yes, I purchased a 12/6 from Don last year - beautiful work (pic below). I think the wait was about 4-5 months and well worth it. My current build, referenced in my previous post, is with a different builder. I'm not complaining even in this current build, I know it will be well worth it.

And just yesterday I received a custom bass ... nine months. So I'm well accustomed and comfortable with the process :)

Honestly 9 months for a bass cab is excessive. Its not nearly a complicated process as building a bass.

Who's the builder?

I talked to Don yesterday when I was on the road, and he was confused about your posts, since he said he has responded to all recent emails and phone messages. So, something strange here. Make sure you are using the phone number on the website, since that is the primary way to reach him. If you've been trying to get in touch with him for more than a few days without a response, you are probably using the wrong number.

So, give him a call and he will straighten it out. He seemed to think he did not have any 6" loaded cabs in his build shedule, but again, we were both talking on our cells.

So, again, make sure you are using the right number. If something got screwed up with your order, he will make it right.

Here is the email I sent on Wednesday.

Don,

If you have not started my cabinet at this point, I would like to just cancel the order. I apologize; I just ran out of time on my end, I need the increased wattage.
From the forums on Talkbass.com, I know there are other players with orders in. Hopefully, my order removal will assist in them getting their cabinet a little sooner.

If you could take a moment to review the current status of my order, I would appreciate it.

At least I know now he never started my cabinet. I only have the one phone number to call, the one on the website. Yes, this is strange. I hope I can get my deposit back. Thanks for looking into this Kjung.

Last band practice I put my Walkabout 4 Ohm combo on top of my LDS 8 Ohm 15/6. This broke several "rules"......but sounded like absolute thunder:bassist::p and fully captured the Walkabout goodness. Mark it down as one of the few times the band leader/rhythm guitarist/lead singer noticed the bass tone enough to comment ("I like the flavor of how that shakes the walls").....the next day I ordered an LDS nEarful 8 Ohm 12/6 to go with the 15/6. Don sounds busy but finally "landed" on the left coast. Can't wait to complete the stack-I might even have it in time for my next bar gig on 2/10 (but I doubt it). Here's a pic of the 15/6. When the 12/6 arrives I'll post a shot of the WA on top of the stack. Between the 2 nEarfuls and the M9/Walkabout I should be stylin':D

I know you've posted in the past that you don't feel the walkabout has enough juice to make the 12/6 cabs bloom, but you really ougtta try your new stack with that head IMHO.
