Mad Professor Bass OD???

TBH the FEA Dual Band, the Fuzzrocious Dark Driving (although it only has "the BBBOD sound", not the full range of tones) and the SFX Micro Black Dragon are three other dirt pedals I own that are all cablable of getting 99% of that BBBOD sound. I kind of the think of the BBBOD like a Walter Woods Ultra - for a long time it was the only game in town for that sound, but now there are other cheaper options that get you pretty damn close to what it does without the price.

Mark, Id love to hear clips of the Black Dragon when/if you get a few moments to do so.

Thanks in advance!

Matt, check out the SFX website, there are 4 or 5 clips of the bass version of the Micro-Black Dragon on the website giving a fair representation of the what the pedal can do. Its got the tone circuit / control from the "Ultra-tone / B^3" pedal so its got very flexible tone options as well as having a clipping switch to change the type of clipping. It also has some of the best low end rentention I've heard in a distortion pedal - Max has really nailed the low end retention with his pedals (OD / Fuzz etc) and this completes the picture.

Go to nad's homepage - he made few clips years ago.

I always thought Icarussmicarus made really good OD clips and he has a bunch with the BBBOD on his soundclick. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=873708

It's also cool to hear how it compares to the Barber LTD clips he has.

Thanks a lot guys, I've found them! I like what I'm hearing as well, I prefer the darker sounds it can get. I'll definitely be getting the Mad Professor when it's released, I think it'll be perfect alongside the WIIO :bassist:

Are there any blueberry clips about? I can't find any

Here,

Played fingerstyle and pick.

Apparently Mad Professor OD has more drive but can be subtle and also very dynamic as the Blueberry.

I would have definitely done a different color LED. Any idea if these are going to be hand-wired, or if they are mass-produced circuit boards that are wave soldered (or a selection of both)?

A much cheaper, mass-produced BBBOD, that you wouldn't have to wait forever and a day for, would make me more interested in trying this pedal. If it's going to be roughly the same price and build time as the BJF version, count me out.

According to the Mad Professor Facebook page, these are going to be the PCB version, and "the same price as the other guitar overdrives" ($169). Sounds like they're delayed again though... unfortunately, the latest update on availability is that they'll be shipping to dealers around the end of February.

5sg.

I'm gonna buy one, but this waiting and delaying is about as pathetic as the rise of Schumann from the ashes.

I sure wish I could miss deadlines at work like this.

I know! I've had serious G.A.S. for a BJFE Blueberry for quite a while... tried 10 overdrives so far in my search for "the Perfect Overdrive" (still own 7 and also have a couple customs on order). The BJFE is the last on my list to try. I figured the MP version would be a good way to test the waters and see if I really wanted to track down the BJFE version, but the waiting is KILLING me! :help: :hmm:

Me too. Been waiting for years.

At 169, if it's not everything the hype says it is, I intend to pack it full of black powder and blow it to smithereens, on tape.

You see - it ain't rocket science. They already HAD the damn circuit. So....you take the handmade layout, and you redo it with a mass-producable layout, and what? It's just a little pedal man, how the hell hard can it be?

Other independent builders here are cooking up stuff way more complex in alot less time. Iron Ether, Earthbound, ad Infinitum.

Please MP, please <blank> or get off the pot. And see to it that you have enough stock so that they are not sold out for the foreseeable future.

Everyone who's jonesing hard for one of these is going to be majorly disappointed. As an owner of a BBBOD I can tell you for sure that its just a nice bass OD, its not gonna suddenly turn you into Jack Bruce or make magic notes come out of your fingers. Save yourself $19 and get a Dark Driving! :)
