Magnets! Neodymium vs AlNiCo vs Ceramic-Ferrite

I've never done eggs or beets. I actually do pickle every summer, cucumbers, onions, cauliflower, etc. Always spicy, with loads of garlic and I do a sweet and a 'dill'. One of my many culinary trips.

Yum, I forgot about cauliflower. Now I'm really hungry!
 
Good way to preserve food without refrigeration. Pretty tasty too, especially with peppers, onions and garlic ;)
I don't put peppers in my picked eggs, but I use lots of onions and a bit of garlic. Just a touch of clove.

A corner store near me does yellow "pickled eggs" with jalapenos, cauliflower and carrots. Their recipe sucks eggs.

My mother would can a "sweet pickled" mix of baby onions, cauliflower, carrots and bell peppers. It was excellent with a sammich.
 
Since the inductance of a Neo driver has the potential to be lower than that of a ceramic-ferrite or AlNiCo driver, does this mean that a Neo driver car react to transients quicker than a ceramic-ferrite/AlNiCo one? I remember reading that the inductance of a driver is inversely proportional to the speed that the driver can react to transients.
I think you refere to Slew Rate.
If assertion was true then total frequency response was inversely proportional to SPL. Higher going level (SPL) demands higher Slew Rate. The tonal impact was a noticeable Low Pass filter affect which deletes top end with any blow up of loudness with master knob.

All kinds of transients are cracy stuff to comprehend. Although slew rate is very big in number at transients it does not (automatically) mean there is a very lot of high frequency content.
At the other hand side in filter theory slew rate can be used to calculate frequency bandwith.

In the meanwhile I claim that a very lot of tonal feel is captured at the very beginning of around 0.1-0.2 sec. any tone starts with. The burst of a branch lasts around 0.2 sec at most but is clearly identified by ears as burst of a branch. At the other hand side ears don't detect amplifier clipping of 0.2 sec duration. That's a "contradiction" we have to tolerate. And, clipped signals does not mean that "tonal" information is totally lost. It's still there but, somewhat different in composition, the ears do a distinct emphasis about what is "essential" and probably some amplifier clipping content is not in this regard, while a burst sound of a branch really is, cause it signals "danger to life" on to the brain!

After 30 years of playing I only have neo's now. In my opinion neo's sound deep and full.
Personally around ten years in the meanwhile, and don't feel need to go back.

I think there are a couple of essental factors a lot of folks don't include in "personal" considerations. The amount of THD (total harmonic distotion) a speaker generates at higher levels can lead to an impressions of "more" or "better" low end than a speaker with superb technical characteristic. In extreme case a speaker with more low end but less THD may be perceived as "weak" or "dry" versus a rather old school design with ceramic magnet but, less low end but, more of THD.

Unfortinatelly there is no neo clone available of the legendary EVM drivers with it's ludicrous Xmax and lots of THD ...

I will be just as right by saying that one of the most common and well known bass cabinets offers a similar low end performance that the fEARful etc delivers. (For the sake of it, in our practice studio, three of the four bass players use one SVT-410HLF per each...)
Yeah, but nowhere near as flat. The 410HLF is very mid-scooped, while the fEarful is not.
 
Well I think I read this whole thread, but nobody mentioned speaker frames. I am not a neo fan, but I know I prefer cabs that have emminence die cast frame drivers. They seem to have more bottom, tend to play louder and still stay tight. My limited experience with neo's, they probably go as low, but can't do it at higher volumes and don't seem to punch you in the chest. I'm currently looking into putting together another rig with 12 inch drivers and will probably look at Aguilar DB and GS cabs. I tried a pair of SL112'S a few weeks ago and they were nothing special, especially for how expensive they are. Also tried an Epifani UL410 cab at the same time, again nothing special. After all that, about two months ago I joined a band that gigs quite a bit, and although they have 1 roadie who helps me carry my cab/cabs. At my advanced age I guess I should be looking at some of the lighter options. Got off track a bit but I prefer ceramic speakers with die cast baskets over ceramic speakers with stamped steel baskets.

No. Not slew rate. Slew rate is, I believe, the speed at which transistors* can change their voltage gain. I'm referring to a paper I read about how inductance the primary factor in the speed at which a driver can react to changes in volume, tone, and frequency. Unfortunately, site where I found the paper at is defunct, but I found a mirror Invalid Link Removed. If anyone wants to read it and tell us if it's bunk, I would be very grateful.


*Every transistor or op-amp whose spec sheet I've read has listed a slew rate, usually in Volts per microsecond. I have never seen such data for tubes. This is going way beyond the point of this thread, but I am curious; what is the effective slew rate of a common tube? Let's say a 12AX7.
 
Slew rate applies to all electro and mechanical systems, it's the maximum linear rate of change, in a variety of units. In fact, it's a form of maximum linear acceleration, though it depends very much on the units being used and the mechanism being measured.
 
I wonder what kind of magnet my Berg NV115 has...I doubt it's a neo, cab weighs 50 or so lbs. I've been running it with my WW Ultra, 800 watts at 8 ohms. It performs flawlessly, sounds great when I push on it, I don't perceive any freq loss.

One of the advantages of NEO material is higher power handling, extended excursion with less frequency response loss. That is the wall hit with ceramic or Alnico so the assumption doesn't hold true. Most NEO M.I. drivers are cast with the basket integral to heat dissipation that I have seen.
