Maple fingerboards!

Never seen a blue P quite like that. What's the story on that lovely finish?

It is a limited edition release called the Sandblasted Precision. Both basses are essentially American Specials but with the Sandblasted finish on swamp ash. I upgraded the bridge and tuners to HipShot. Lightweight and great players and both are putting on a lot of miles.

Not sure what you're saying here. The bass I showed in post #1 is a 70s reissue Fender P, and was made in Japan in 2017.
Actually, the whole reason I got into this thread is because of your bass! I was wondering if it was MIJ. My post is definitely US-centric, but I have lived in Japan, from 1982-88 and again from 2002-06. I love Fender Japan stuff, they were great basses in the '80s when I was a teenager and I still have a strong affection for them.

They introduced the "70s P-Bass" in the US around 2011 (There's a thread here) - production moved to Mexico by 2012. Sometime between 2012-2015 they stopped importing stuff from Japan to the US (and a thread on that here). I don't think the Classic Series 70s P-Bass has been available here for a few years, but I'm definitely willing to believe they produce similar models in Japan - I used to love checking out the Ikebe website for some of the interesting stuff they'd produce, like Billy Sheehan inspired Precisions.

Where did you buy yours?

I bought my bass right here in The Netherlands. Someone I trust told me that "Fender orders from this Japanese factory whenever it suits them. These MIJ Fenders are then made mainly for the Japanese market, but every now and then a container of the stuff ends up here".

Well you could have asked, on the other hand I could have said what it was in the first place. I've modifed that post.

Thanks! I will definitely check those links out.
