Markbass cabs, the sound you're looking for?

I had no idea you are a Woman, mine and others answered based on the myth that because it is made in an "Asian Country" it sucks, without taking into account that newer products are also Designed/Voiced different as they are "New Products". New products sound different than previous products due to design, not country they are build.

Many will disagree often on this site when an opinion is brought, a speaker being better than another is an opinion, and as such it is open for discussion. This topic will bring many opinions, some stronger than yours and no one will like everyone's answer. It's all good.

Please do not jump on this as a gender thing. The Males here debate fiercely with other Males often where a Moderator will get involved and some get timeouts or banned. It is not you but the nature of the discussion.

We have some great Females here and I would love to see more, and look forward to more of your post in the future.

I am Male if that matters.

Salome you are missing something.
Dr. King said he looked forward to a day when we would be judged by the content of our character not the color of skin. Same goes here. Walking into a room or forum and assuming that all the participants are racists, sexists, "istists" is dripping with prejudice. Pre judging.

Lets use the race of purple people. I hire a purple person. The show up late. They miss days and don't call in. They call in sick on Mondays and Fridays. Eventually because I can't provide the service my business advertises I fire that purple person. The purple person then says I'm racist. Who is noticing race?

In our case this is about some speakers. That someone disagrees with you has nothing to do with gender. No one mentioned gender until you did. No one noticed. Are there some people with sexist tendencies on TB? Statistically yes. We have all lived here on this earth and picked up ways. It is a personal quest to identify and cleanse these things.

There is no substitute for self acceptance. No matter who or what anyone says or thinks around you the only person you have control over is you. If you were purple and the majority group thought you were less intelligent etc. then they it's your job to know who you are.

I told you when this C19 is over to go find an elderly woman of Armenian or African descent and ask them if they were waiting for the majority to accept them.
They will say big NO.

Self acceptance please. We welcome you. Don't push us away with claims that you have no way of proving.
A poet I worked with once said, "Did anyone ever try to take Mother Theresa's shoes?" Why not? It would never occur to anyone. Why? How she saw herself.
Get to know us and see if you've found community.

Just can't stick to the issue, can you. I'm not telling you you're wrong. Yet, you seem incapable of extracting your emotions from the very basic issue which is, "I disagree. That's all, and that's it."
You have your opinion and that's fine. You, on the other hand, don't seem able to allow me mine. Don't you find something unfair about that?
Now, this has gone farther than it should have so I'm done. I expect your nasty response. At this point, nothing you say will surprise me. I only hope that you will dig deep and muster up some self respect.

Hey everyone, can we take a step back?

@Salome30Hz , this is an interesting thread and quite valuable to people who are into this. You have expertise (history, knowledge, experience) and opinions - and your post #23 acknowledges succinctly what we all would do well to keep in mind on this forum (and elsewhere) - there's a lot that's subjective, and what I like is what *I* like. It's what sounds good or feels good to me, and I find that sometimes I can explain that with qualifiers that make sense to others, and sometimes I can't. I appreciated the back-and-forth in this thread, until it went south.

If you are on the receiving end of a post you find offensive, please feel free to report it. There's a small triangle at the bottom of each post, and clicking that brings up a window in which you can write a sentence or two about what specifically is offensive. This is available for anyone to use. I would encourage this rather than blowing up at someone in-thread.

When someone insults or demeans someone else, online or IRL, I can rarely prove their motives for doing so. They may sense a vulnerability and exploit it. They may be a racist / sexist / homophobic / anti-religious jerk. They may have poor social skills. They may be a rude person. Or they may just be having a bad day. Or I may be having a bad day, and something could land wrong. I have no idea why @SJan3 questioned your credentials. It is something that people do on the internet. We don't really know each other. His post was impolite and his tone was uncalled for ('You don't read too well') and off we went from there.

We get to pick our friends online, just like IRL. Report is one option. Ignore is another. And on that cheery note, I'm going to report my own post here as soon as it posts, to get this on the radar of the forum mods.

Back on topic , I own 2-102p's that are less than a year old. Self disclosure, I am a boomer , to my ear the Markbass branded speakers sound different but very useable . I have owned a cmd112 combo with a B&C speaker as well as a Schroeder 210pl w/ B&C speakers so I have experience with both flavors. I would definitely replace the Markbass speakers with B&C when they eventually give out but for me the tradeoff is that these newer MB 102p's weigh in at 27 lbs. and for someone with weight restrictions that is a golden number. To some of us musicians who want to keep playing into our twilight , this is a tradeoff I (we) choose to make.

So... has anyone ever been fired from a gig or had their record deal pulled because of their MB rig?
Mine I recently purchased is the first expensive amp I've owned, previously a TC 250 which I thought was pretty cool and a peavy max 300 before that.
The improvement over both of those to this isn't even debatable, and I'm absolutely in love with the tones I can pull out of it. I almost went with ampeg but the ported 102 just did it for me. I agree with the sound quality being subjective and i can see why sound engineers would be able to spot differences. But is it safe to assume that those are maybe 1-2% of the bass population?
Oh and on the original topic, MB was the sound I was looking for.

I have 2 Markbass Mini CMD 121P combos... an Italian one with the class A/B head and B&C speaker (2011), and an Indonesian one with the class D head and Yellow Line speaker (2019). There's an undeniable difference between the 2. The Italian combo can get a lot louder without farting out and it has an all around fatter, punchier tone than the Indo. The Indo isn't a bad amp by any means, but I much prefer the Italian one. The Italian is also 30 lbs., while the Indo weighs 26 lbs. I actually bought the Indo one first, and then just happened to find a great deal on the Italian that I couldn't pass up, so I'm going to sell the Indo one now. Someone will still be very happy with it, as I was before I heard the difference. But now that I know, I know.

I also have an Italian Jeff Berlin 151P combo, with the Class A/B head and B&C driver (2012), which I got in-between my 2 121Ps. I thought it sounded so much better than the Indo 121P just because it's a bigger speaker/bigger cab, but now I believe it's also because it has the class A/B head and the B&C driver. This JB is the loudest, punchiest, best sounding bass combo I've ever played in my life. It weighs a solid 50 lbs. compared to the newer Indo JB combos at ~39 lbs., but if the newer JBs are anything like my Indo 121P sound-wise, that extra 11 lbs. is worth it! I put removable caster wheels on the JB and I love it even more now because it's not terribly heavy at 50 lbs. (I played a 100 lb. SWR 4x10 for 15 years in the '90s/00s), but wheeling it around is sure nice. And I pop the 2 rear casters out and leave the front 2 in while playing, which gives it a perfect tilt to get the sound up closer to my ears rather than my knees. It's really the perfect "bar gig" amp IMO. It'll fill a medium size music venue or a large bar with no PA support no problem. For smaller rooms, dives and rehearsals, the 121P is perfect. For large halls and outdoor stages, the JB would be fine with PA support, but I usually bring my 2 Aguilar SL-112s and Peavey MiniMax for the bigger stages. I've played practically everything over the years and I have zero amp GAS now.

I like to use decent tools in my profession. I don't mind spending a fair amount of money, if it reliably does the job I want it to. The point of all this? Markbass make a lot of money from their equipment sales. As a professional musician I don't think that post-B&C, "Italian era", Markbass cabs or amplifiers justify their price point. The only reason I know Markbass cabs can sound amazing is because I have two with real B&C drivers and they sound nothing at all like their new Yellow-line Markbass Custom speakers, made 'in-house' now, which is accountancy-speak for "we found a far cheaper east Asian manufacturer"...View attachment 3728711
Markbass Traveller 210P 2×10" 8-Ohm cab with original Italian B&C neodymium drivers. This sound made Markbass famous. As it is this 2×10 is approximately £550 ($704 USD).

If you own a MB Yellow-line cab and you're dissatisfied or disappointed in the sound the speakers reproduce - put B&C drivers in, like the original cabinets had.
It's not a cheap undertaking, but I guarantee it's the clarity of the sound that you're looking for.

If you took off the markbass logo and it had HF ports that would totally look like old Eden DXLT series cabs! Thoes speakers look very similar. From what I can tell they look like Eminence XLT Drivers? How do they sound compared to this new markbass "yellow line" speakers?

They are nothing alike and EDEN made their own drivers in house. Your eyes are deceiving you.

Listen, EDEN electronics in Montrose, Mn made their own drivers and even made the early SWR Goliath. You were likely in diapers then. Today's "Eden" is in name only. David Nordshaw has absolutely nothing to do with it.

*Eden's reputation was founded on the fact that everything was designed and built "in-house", including the speakers (a very rare feat by any manufacturer).

+1...I am like 99.99% sure that in their early days (like mid/late 1970's) Eden even manufactured speakers for other OEMs. As things progressed I believe that changed as the last Eden cab I bought a number of years back has a Celestion or Eminence speaker in it.

FWIW, GK is one of the only bass cab manufacturers today that builds their own speakers. AFAIK most all the other bass cab manufacturers work with one of the big name speaker houses (Faital, Eminence, Celestion, etc.) to have customer spec drivers built for them.

When EDEN was EDEN, as in David Nordshaw, their drivers were made in house and they also made SWRs earlier Goliath cab before SWR went to P.A.S., which was a step backward, IMHO. I compared my D210T to a Goliath loaded with P.A.S. Big difference in tone. The David had much more midrange and the Goliath was decidedly scooped in comparison and the cabinets were virtually identical in dimension. Goes to show just how much difference a speaker makes.

I'm not being Ignoant whatsoever. Im just sharing what I know and from others. Whenever I state something that could be even slightly wrong you get up and start barking at me. And so what if im asking the same questions over again? I was unsure and found this whole thing about "Markbass ital vs indo, tweeter and b&c vs yellow line" very confusing as im sure most of us do here. No offence but I personally find you to be quite rude towards me and most of my posts with Markbass or other Gear. From what iv seen from a few other users below, its not just me.

I would think that you'd listen to an experienced player who has owned this gear. I'm able to answer some of your questions but you want to argue with the facts. Have it your way but I prefer learning from others who know better.
