78 Pbass since 81.still the best sounding and playing bass I have,only leaves house for special occasions since every time I play it in a band situation it looses some more finish(crimson red transparent).nothing else thumps like it.true love.

"Married" to the same bass for almost 50 years

I've had my "78 Jazz since 1982 - 29 years. It's "retired now though and I use a '96 Jazz relic for gigs.
I've had my '76 4000 since 1986, gigged it as my #1 'til about 1998 and still play it, but my new 4003 takes #1 spot now.

I'm just wondering if anyone else there has a similar track record. (It sure isn't me. I've got 7 right now.)
'77 Travis Bean fretless, bought brand new and shiny. Two other basses have come and gone over the years, two have come and stayed and will continue to stay, no GAS for another one, ever. Doesn't matter a lick to me what anyone else does though...
I've had my current bass for 7-8 years - while swapping about 40 others through at one time or another. So far I've always come back, but I am starting to tire of the active 5 string thing so a passive 4 - or two - may be in my future.
Hopefully going to try a Geddy Lee at this weekends gigs. I've had one in the past and liked it a lot. Maybe add a P bass with flats for a little variety.

I bought my 1979 MusicMan Sabre around '85 or '86; so I've had it at least 25 years.
My other bass is a Spector NS-2. I bought it new in 1994; so I've had it for 17 years.

Holy Crap that's a beauty. Is that the OG finish? Is it Shoreline Gold? (Admittedly not a Fender finish expert).
I don't really have bass or amp gas (I do need to add some cabs to my rig),...I have effects gas.
Since I've owned my 'Wick,...I had the 82-83 JV Squier and a G&L Tribby JB-2 both of which I got great deals on and both of which have moved on. There are basses out there that I'd love to own but little stomp boxes are more easily affordable and you can slowly add up over time while still feeding your need for instant gratification.
I think my next purchase will be a used Stock SX of some sort and then put the mods to her.
Bought my 61 Stacknob Jazz in 1983. It has been refinnished again(had the typical 70's walnut stain refin when I bought it). 28 years and counting, but it doesn't get that much play anymore.

I have had two basses last me for a long time.... my second bass, bought in 1983 - a year after I started playing - stayed with me for 14 years. It was a sunburst 78 Fender Precision bass, which was later modified quite heavily to accomodate a 5th string and an ebony fretless fingerboard. It was replaced in 1997 by a custom built 5-string fretless built by a local bass builder (Frank Hovland, in Bergen, Norway). It's still here, another 14 years later.
At the time, back in 1983, I had only one bass... And these two fretless basses have stayed with me for most of my playing years. But I have gone through a lot of fretted basses over the years.

I bought my first bass, a new Fender P-bass, in 1973 for $300 (I still have the receipt) and I still have the bass. I've owned a lot of different basses over the years and currently have 2 Sadowskys, and 3 vintage Fenders (including the P) and I still regularly play my p-bass. It's roadworn, been refretted once and the pups have been rewound, but other than that, it's all still there. Great bass.
