McGregor- Mayweather

WHY is there not a thread about this??
It's this Saturday, folks!

Are we not interested here in TB OT?

OK, so- What's gonna happen?

It so happens, I have a pretty good idea of who's going to come out on top, but you may differ!

BTW, I believe tix are around 10K, and there are going to be LOTS of Par-tays this week-end in Vegas. (We get to play! We get to play!)

Back to topic:

So?

Mayweather survives the storm mcgregor throws at him in the early rounds by avoiding the big straight left and then systematically breaks him down. I'm thinking he'll stop mcgregor by tko in the mid-late rounds after frustrating him and wearing him down with an accumulation of shots. A lob sided decision for Mayweather is probably the safe money though. I've been a fan of boxing and mma for a really long time. I prefer mma but the UFC seems to be becoming more like the WWE than I care to see. Never was a fan of either guy really and I'm not sure who to root for here. I guess I want to see mcgregor shock the world but he'll be even more obnoxious than now after a win. My brother just asked me the other day what I thought of this fight and I said it reminds me of the movie The Great White Hype where they trick everybody into buying a fight and then the guy gets steamrolled. If Mcgregor somehow pulls it off and finishes Mayweather it would be the greatest sporting achievement of my lifetime.

It will be interesting to see how much dirty boxing ( the legit tactical kind, not the punch the junk to slow them down kind ) McGregor will get away with. Mayweather is a fantastic defensive fighter but that is when punches are flying. He can, and does get put into corners and on the ropes where people try to fling at him. If McGregor "mugs" him with rough shod elbows and pushing. McGregor could goad Mayweather into a brawl where the playing field is more equal. In pure boxing Mayweather all day e're day, but in a donnybrook I'll take the puncher.

Still my personal opinion mirrors that of Roy. Mayweather by TKO in the mid rounds. Connors face will look like hamburger and Mayweather will have sweat and little else but a mocking smile on his.

Edit: I think it bears mentioning that the switch to 8oz gloves lends itself to Mayweather. It gives his punches more impact. McGregor and everyone seems to think it favors Connor, but I think they are missing just what that will allow Floyd to do. Faster hands with less between them and his target? Connor didn't think that through. . .

I hope McGregor gets the stuffing knocked out of him.

And to Mcgregor.....I don't care what you say. Nate Diaz beat you. So you aren't invincible and you aren't the greatest fighter that ever lived.

Nate Diaz beat you. Nate Diaz beat you. Nate Diaz beat you. Nate Diaz beat you. Nate Diaz beat you. Nate Diaz beat you. Nate Diaz beat you.

Guess you feel good fighting a guy now that is almost ready for the retirement home. We all know you're only in this one for the money.

I'm not watching this fight and I don't care whether you win or lose.

Because Nate Diaz already beat you.

What's next on your list...a pillow fight with Kanye West?

Now that's something I would pay 10K for a ringside seat for!

But seriously..
Does anyone really think this will not be an interesting match-up, AND a good fight??

Yeh, but-IIRC, Conor BEAT him fair/square in the re-match. Anyone for a multi-million #3? I bet both are!

Look, what McGregor does is nothing new, from "Gorgeous George" to Ali, to whomever.
Trash-talks sells tix, and the revenue from this fight would buy lots of Foderas.

Las Vegas is buzzin' now, good for business, I get some drop-down benefits with an unusually high-paying Corporate gig, so I say...
Keep 'em coming, the more the merrier.

Mayweather was & prolly still is one of the best defensive boxers ever, McGregor, whether he pi**es people off or not, has remarkable skills and power, Nate Diaz, despite his slap, has nowhere near the drawing power that CM has brilliantly created for himself.

They talked about this fight for a long time; finally got the financials worked out, and everyone, hopefully including the fans, profits.

It should be a good one IMO. I've always been a fight fan, my Dad was semi-pro, I boxed in high-school (I'm really not very good, I learned the hard way!:roflmao:)
Never did any MMA, and always thought of the comparisons between the two disciplines and how the fighters may match up.

We'll see.

I like MMA. It's slipped into the realm of spectacle over sport, which is reflected in the mindset of the younger generation I suppose. I do like that in MMA the best fight the best and a loss on a record is just that. a loss, not a way to exclude you from fighting top talent. Boxing puts everything on a perfect record which leads to uninspired fights of champions vrs scrubs.

I never got into MMA, and stopped watching boxing in the mid 90's.
I'll be happy when this obnoxious event is over.

Fair enough.
Lately, I have seen some excellent Boxing matches on SHOBOX, HBO, and others, there are some excellent up-and-comers, Gervonta Davis on this undercard, and Regis Prograis come to mind. Maybe because I boxed enough to appreciate what a skilled fighter brings to the ring...

MMA is awesome, and only gets dull to me when the grappling on the ground goes on interminably, but there again- I do see the dedication & skill needed to bring it to the ring (or Octagon).

I personally don't think this is an "obnoxious" match, maybe a bit contrived, but it still brings together 2 combatants
that have an awful lot of skillz, and neither one wants to lose.
