McGregor- Mayweather

I take nothing away from either fighter, that's why its a good and legit match.
we'll see.
MMA is not in my wheelhouse experience wise, but I certainly get it.
Now Boxing- that is, and I'll share this (somewhat humbly!)
My Dad boxed, and put gloves on me & we trained, starting when I was 12 years old.
I progressed fairly well, and actually won my Division in the local area in High-School.
Then- We (the team) went to Regionals, which was in the "Big City" (My HS was in the 'burbs.)
There in the first Round, I was put up against a far superior fighter who proceeded to hit me in places I didn't even know I had!
Next morning, I realized I was never to be a Pro!!
Point being- I would never take anything away from a Professional, especially a World Champion like Floyd Mayweather.
Those belts have to be won, they are not sold on E-Bay.
At least I don't think so!

I don't really follow boxing anymore, and have never follower ufc or similar, but seeing that the fight is under boxing rules, I can't see Mayweather losing. It's a bit like Jordan taking up baseball

CM's in the peak of his career, Floyd's is essentially over, save for this match.
I hope nobody gets a broken jaw, or any injury, and that this will be nothing other than watching a good, competitive fight.
No offense Judge Fingerdub but before we close the case, its best to present tangible facts and a cohesive argument. Mayweather is absolutely in the discussion with Chavez and "not even close" is hyperbole. I agree this should probably be an exhibition and not count as Floyd's 50th pro boxing win but it will be interesting to see how Mcgregor will fair.

Yes, there is always a remote chance he comes super hard and lands something bizarre, but outside of the 1st and second round, no shot.

We'll never know what would have happened if Mayweather Jr had fought Chavez Sr.
It's one of those "Louis vs. Ali"- type dream matches. Of course, Julio stated that HE would have won, but what else??
They once presented a Computer enactment of Ali vs. Marciano, IIRC, and Rocky won by KO!
Really no point, just entertainment.
This match is somewhat on the exhibition level, but still I feel these guys mean business, lots of pride on the line.
They both have plenty $$, not to say its not an incentive as well.

This is what makes a fight; the rabid favor of one over the other!
As I said, I have my opinion on who will prevail, and how, but...
Strange things can happen, and I do believe that either FM or CM has the capability of sending the other to the canvas.

No need to respond but I'd like to, after all the case is still open. Luckily for me this is an open forum for discussion. Mayweather is most certainly close even if Chavez was a better fighter. At those elite championship levels you are talking about one being a fraction of a percent better as they are both 99% and to say otherwise makes you sound like you don't know boxing. Sorry to be a stickler on this point. Picking his fights might make Mayweather lose fan support but it doesn't negate boxing skills. Back to the point. As for Mcgregor's chances I think you are right that he will likely be steamrolled. As a fan of both sports I look forward to seeing the abilities of a high level MMA striker against a boxer as a sort of litmus test. Please only respond if you'd like to, as that's what we all do here on talkbass.

It seems evident enough that a combat sport like boxing or MMA is certainly gonna bring up emotions, like "Kill Him"; Knock his *** out" and such.
We don't really wish anyone to be hurt, we just hope to see (2) combatants at the top of their game, and in-shape, give us a great exhibition of their skills and gutz.
It takes some big ballz to get into a ring; for real.
He'll fight fair, there will be a Referee to make sure.

I thought I read somewhere that the fight contract stipulates that if McGregor "snaps" and does anything outside of boxing rules he forfeits his paycheck. I'm not sure if that's true but it wouldn't surprise me. What's he getting, $25m? That's a lot to give up to end the fight on a cheap shot.
I was wondering about that too. Deep into the match, he's tired, he's been hit in the head 20 times, instinct takes over and he throws a knee or elbow ...
