MEDIUM SCALE WARWICK ROCKBASS 5'er, this just changed everything

ya, these are single strings from BSO, it's the easiest & cheapest way to experiment & get the exact string that feels right to you the player, especially with the lower tension of short/med scale basses you can bump up the gauge & make it feel just like your long scale feels :D

the problem with sets of short scale strings from virtually all the manufacturers is,,, the gauge is friggin tiny,, the exact opposite of what a short/med scale player wants :confused::help:

Have you tried individuals at Bass strings online? I doubt if they have one that short, those Mikros are tiny.

If anyone (or company) is out there drawing up plans for a 5-string medium scale, it's best to make it string thru and enough room between the nut and B tuner to accommodate regular (34") string sets.

Just sayin. ;)

I usually don't GAS too hard for Warwicks, but that one intrigued me. In black though.

Thanks for posting the info for contacting the guys at Music Corp. Unforunately I found out that the medium scale 5 string with active pickups is not available in the USA. It's exacly what I wanted. Rats!

Just catching up. Thanks for the great ideas guys. The sleeve sounds like a viable option and I'm wondering how the ball end attaches on your Mikro Nor Cal? As this is my backup bass, I'll probably just keep the B on for sometime with the hopes that the medium scale revolution will continue to flourish and more strings sets will become available. Interestingly, I was speaking with a German retailer who stated that the B string sets are actually manufactured in the U.S. If this is true, its too bad that I would have for them to be exported and then imported back again before they get on my bass.

Just discovered the same thing, independently. Told by a stateside dealer yesterday that none of the medium scale RB 5s will be available in the U.S. -- active or passive, satin or black. Looks like ebonalley scored one only because it was a floor demo from NAMM.

Bitterly disappointed. Remember those encouraging posts from WarwickOfficial? Never any mention that most of us won't have access to the thing. Maybe he didn't know, and some genius in global marketing/distribution cut us off?

the med/short scale market is so small compared to the long scale string market. there will never be the same offerings available to both. sure, they'll make a set or two of strings available, in the gauges that they choose, but nothing that i'd choose, if given the choice.

i'll modify my gear & experiment with a vast long scale string selection to get the tone & feel that suits me.

when i have a bit more time, i'll fabricate a proper anchor point for the ball ends, but to prove that this is feasible, i lazered everything out to get the correct placement, & i installed a simple eye screw for each string. works perfectly. tuning is every bit as stable as it was anchored to the bridge.

+1. I had a 32" that just finished up. I had debated making it a 5'er, but decided if I needed one that this model would be available.

I like Warwick, but I'm going to put this behind me and move on. Ebon, you really picked up the banner on this one, so I'm glad you were able to get one of the NAMM demos.

I emailed the folks at Link Removed a few weeks ago inquiring about the fretless 5 string version of this bass. They said they could get it but it would take 10-12 weeks to arrive. Hopefully this is still true.

I like mine. Really well put together and as far as I can hear, it has the Warwick growl. One thing though, the string spacing is pretty tight (16.5) which for me took some getting used to. Everything else is pretty spot on for me. Apparently they are pretty hard to get but if you are in Canada, AllYouNeedMusic can get you one.

Hi I just found this post & wanted to mention that I was lucky & got a lefty medium-scale RockBass Corvette 5-string shipped to me here in the US a few months ago, and I absolutely love the bass. I found out only the active pickup models are available(the passive models are custom-order only) which is what I originally wanted, but I'm very pleased with the tone from all-5 strings with the active setup. Plenty of punch, plenty of growl, I use a pretty odd bass tone and I was able to dial it in as well. To the people concerned about string spacing, there's a pretty wide range of adjustment at the bridge. I run a very narrow spacing and was able to get them down to 11.5mm, but they go much wider. The only issues I had were 1.) like all other lower-end Asian basses I've seen, this one needed the frets leveled and dressed to get the action super low(I run mine at ~.037"), and 2.) my bass was built in November 2013 so it had been in the warehouse almost a year when I got it(unfortunately it seems they're not selling well), and the styrofoam packing that was wrapped around the body had caused some very minor scratching. It didn't bother me since I know it's just getting worn from regular use anyway, but I'd understand if someone was upset about it.

I'm the guy with the two 32" 5 string German Warwicks. One is a 2007 custom house Corvette Standard. The other is one I put together from a nice maple Corvette Proline and a beat up Standard with a mint 32" scale neck. Both have a fantastic B-string and I gigged with both for over 8 years. I cannot comment on the Rockbass since I have not tried one but my two are just great. Low action. No farting. No fret click or buzz. I play finger style. I use DR Low Riders with a .130 B string.
